On Friday afternoon (Sept. 10) a big rig heading downhill on westbound Interstate 80 in the Sierra Nevada lost its brakes and, coincidentally, spilled its load of Tesla batteries– at least one of which caught fire. The wreck closed the westbound lanes for the rest of the day.
I happened to be heading in the same direction a couple of hours later, from Lake Tahoe to Sacramento. Google Maps/WAZE showed the 1-2 hour detour around the wreck, but Tesla navigation still displayed the normal routing– even though the ETA to Sacramento was similar to the ETA displayed by Google Maps/WAZE.
Only AFTER I took the detour did the Tesla map update the route. Not helpful.
