Tesla Order Process and Refunds

So my cousin ordered a Tesla about a month ago. He traded in his BMW and had about $10,000 equity which is being held by Tesla along with his deposit. He found out this week he will not be able to continue with the Tesla purchase due to some sudden financial issues. I know he will lose the deposit but what about the equity from his BMW that they are holding? Anyone know the answer to this?

I think it would be illegal for them to hold the equity, and that's not the sort of thing they do anyway. He should just call and explain the situation to them.

He called and spoke with the manager and they will pay him his equity. I think you are correct that they really don't have a choice. However I may be able to help him out so he is going to try to save the deal.
