Probably reported in another (non UK) forum, but thought it might be of passing interest to Brits

"Tesla owners who also drive another vehicle are 50% less likely to have an accident in their Tesla compared to in their other vehicles, according to an interesting new study looking at EV drivers who drive multiple vehicles.

The study is coming from Cambridge Mobile Telematics, which collects telematics data from millions of vehicles.

At the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Charging Into an Electrified Future Conference this week, the group released findings from a study of how behaviors and safety change for electric vehicle drivers when they drive their EVs compared to any other vehicle.

Interestingly, EV drivers are much less likely to crash in their EV than in their other vehicles, but there’s a big discrepancy between brands.

For example, the study found that Tesla owners are about 50% less likely to crash their EV than any other vehicle they operate while it’s the opposite for Porsche EV owners."

If you're driving a 60-100k car you're going to be a bit more careful with it than the average ford escort :p
Taycan is more expensive - but opposite effect

I'll just focus on this bit
Tesla drivers who also operate another vehicle. These drivers are nearly 50% less likely to crash while driving their Tesla than any other vehicle they operate. We conducted the same analysis on individuals who operate a Porsche and another vehicle. In this case, we observed the opposite effect. Porsche drivers are 55% more likely to crash while driving their Porsche compared to their other vehicle.

"My other vehicle is a Tesla" (obviously)

Unfortunately it doesn’t stop other wankers driving into your Tesla whilst it’s parked up and doing a runner though🤔. Which is just as expensive to repair as if you had damaged it🤔, hence mine having a dented back wing which will stay that way.

That is so true, especially here in London as during my 4 year ownership I don't know what is it about Londoners or something about Tesla that brings out the absolute C****s in them. I have had someone key the side panel, then for no reason one day found a Styrofoam cup half full of drink placed on the boot area. Then while parked near a post office I come back and find someone had thrown ice cream over the frunk. And I am not talking about some bad part of London, this happened in Chelsea and a nice part of Wimbledon. Must be the dreary weather perhaps that make people here so miserable that they just want to spread misery around them.
Lastly someone backed into my parked car and did a runner and I was told it would be an insane amount of money to replace the frunk even though it was a miniscule amount of damage that was hardly noticeable.
So glad I finally got rid of the car and all the stress is gone! Don't miss the car one bit, only miss the supercharging network though! 🙂
It would be interesting to see if Tesla is one of the most vandalised cars as that wouldn't surprise me.

Oh I’ve had the front passenger window damaged and back passenger window smashed ……. for a baseball cap too. Yes the quote for the back wing was insane from the official bodyshop … £1800 iirc at which point I looked at the guy incredulously before starting to laugh ….. I thought he was taking the piss🤣🤣 …. apparently not though. Any other car would be £120 at dent devils but not Tesla, “oh we have to isolate the HV system …… it’s not fecking HV ….. definition of HV is anything over 1000V ac or 1500V DC ……I’m a bloody HV engineer ffs🤦🏼‍♂️

I’m not surprised by the Taycan - we had one take out a neighbour’s wall last June. Made a right mess. Driver said the car was faulty, but it looked like it was going at some speed judging by the damage.
Doesn’t take much to do a lot of damage to a car nowadays, they’re made out of tinfoil and plastic maybe a pair of Val’s old knickers and some sticky back plastic too🤷🏼‍♂️ Or are you talking about the wall🤔

Sentry mode should help in those situations…
Never use it, burns too much battery when it’s parked nose end in towards the pavement with it’s flashing headlight’s (plus the attention draw). It’s herringbone parking outside the flat I rent when working away from home, last time I used it local kids were dancing in front of the thing just to get the headlights flashing🤦🏼‍♂️.

So a tesla battery at 400volts is not high voltage so any kid can handle it? Come on man, be reasonable. You should see the prices charged by bimmer garages.

Who said Chelsea and Wimbledon are full of good people? Property prices have nothing to do with human behaviour so you can always find rich and poor AH everywhere.

This could be because we might turn on the wipers when trying to reverse the other car, or might gently release the pedal, hoping the non-existent regen might slow down.

Sorry but lame argument. Reality is some places are more dangerous than others for various reasons like knife crime, thefts, vandalism etc. There are safe and unsafe neighborhoods and btw I never said everyone in Chelsea or Wimbledon was a decent person.

it’s not fecking HV ….. definition of HV is anything over 1000V ac or 1500V DC ……I’m a bloody HV engineer ffs🤦🏼‍♂️
Yeah, always struck me as odd to refer to it as HV. Different field, different terminology, I guess.

Although I can see that referring to the traction battery as the "low voltage" battery would be confusing, too 🙂

I think the point is that traditonally almost everything in a car is ELV and considered safe, so you need a term that will warn people that dangerous voltages are present in EVs - and "low voltage" just doesn't cut it.

No it’s not high voltage ….. according to the Electricity at Work Regulations. I don’t make the regulations, I just have to adhere to them as should anyone else working with electricity🤷🏼‍♂️.
I have seen the prices charged by BMW, I’ve owned 3 of them🤣, yes the service costs are high. Body work repairs on the other hand can be done at any bodyshop or dent repair service. I had a much worse location dent repaired on my previous BMW by a dent repair place for £150. There is absolutely no reason at all that the “HV” on a Tesla should have to be completely isolated for a small dent on external bodywork. Unless they’re admitting they don’t fit properly insulated electrical systems.
