Tesla Quietly Discontinues the 85 kWh Battery Option in Canada

Alas that information is out of date. If you look later in the same thread (e.g. Decoding Tesla Model S VINs, post #333), there are people with 70s and 85s who have an E in position 7. The PDF I reference above is effective August 1, 2015.

Thanks. That will help all the newbies here to not get so confused. I tend to read the first page of posts and the last page of posts on the long threads so I can catch up. Means I miss stuff buried in the middle. Oops.

Don't know if it's been mentioned elsewhere: the 85 is no longer available in the USA either (after the end of March's deliveries), and it's disappearing elsewhere. RWD at present available only on the 70.

Not true (as far as I know, anyway). We purchased an S85D in December, for delivery late January/February. We did this later delivery specifically to ensure that the VIN would reflect a 2016 automobile NOT a 2015. Picked it up yesterday - it's a 2016 85kWh vehicle. I don't think that the VIN will reflect anything other than the actual year of production, not the year of purchase.

As a person who just took delivery on my S85D, I'm surprised that the 85kWh pack issue wasn't mentioned.
In fact, I specifically upgraded from the 70 to the 85 simply based on range anxiety and the potential issue of resale.
Not entirely sure how to feel about this.

Not disputing the end of the 85kWh battery pack, just that the build date (year), rather than the order date determines the VIN.
If that's not correct, I must have have misunderstood the question.

I think when you said "Not true (as far as I know, anyway)" it's not really clear what comment or post you were refuting.

nitrous - believe me, Tesla is notorious for this. They introduce changes unannounced. I have been burnt by auto-pilot, Dual motor (for my first MS) and now this (for my second MS).
