Tesla Reaches Settlement With Michigan Over Ban Blocking Sales

There are a couple hoops they have to jump through but they should be transparent to the consumer. The service work has to be performed under a wholly-owned subsidiary rather than Tesla itself, and the paperwork and original title needs to be filed out of state before being transferred into Michigan. Otherwise, they are free to sell, service, and deliver cars from an unlimited number of locations.

To be clear, it says that _legal title_ has to be transferred out of state. Legal title transfers once the sale and purchase is complete.

So, like other states, pay all the money in advance and wait for delivery. Whether you get a temporary tag so you can drive the car straight away would depend on state laws in Michigan and the shipping state.

I still say a better solution is for Tesla to place sale and service centers on Michigan native American reservations throughout the state. The reservations' sovereignty would make this possible no matter what Michigan law said and it would bring jobs to the native American residents and greater convenience for Michigan owners. A total win-win.
