An order of 50 Tesla Semis has been placed by TCI Transportation, a large truck leasing company.

TCI provides specialized equipment, drivers, management and the “latest cost-effective technology on the market today.” Headquartered in Phoenix, TCI’s vehicle fleet totals more than 2,000 trucks, tractors and trailers.

The company announced the order last week in a tweet that showed TCI executives posing with a Tesla Semi prototype.

Tesla plans to offer 300-mile and 500-mile range versions priced between $150,000 and $180,000. A ‘Founders Series’ version is offered for $200,000.

TCI’s order, worth between $7.5 million and $9 million, is the one of the largest publicly announced orders to date. Other large orders include 125 from UPS and 50 from UAE-based environmental and waste management company Bee’ah.

The Tesla Semi is scheduled to go into production next year.

This is REALLY good news on top of other orders but I really hope Tesla will get the timing of production right as professional firms are not as patient as fan boys - make or break? Could well be!!
