I’m picking up my model X soon and currentlly using someone’s referral code.

Can I change the referral code to another person as long as I haven’t picked up my car yet?

You can always ask and try, but in general I don't think they allow it except under extreme circumstances.

Does the first person know they might lose a referral?

That’s the problem. . . I’ve tried to reach out to the person who’s code I was using with a few questions and I haven’t heard from him after multiple attempts.

Well, that certainly is a good reason to try and change the referral code!

Definitely ask before delivery. Tell Tesla exactly what happened, you got a code, and they disappeared and you don't think they deserve it.

It's sad that Tesla makes what should be a great program, an annoying experience for customers. I qualified for Black HPWC, Wheels and Powerwall II. Got confirmations for wheels and HPWC in December 2017. Still no awards delivered and response from Tesla on the wheels is they are back ordered (Black 22" MX) and it will be another month or two as an estimate and no response on WC at all.

They also told me in one response that the delay for the wheels, was in part as I was located in a cold climate and the wheels and tires are meant for summer use. Really?

Again disappointing that this is managed so terribly. I fulfilled my part of the agreement, why do I have to chase Tesla to fulfill theirs?

In recent years Oklahoma has more earthquakes than California. I've lived on the west coast over 50 years and have been through 2 big earthquakes (Sylmar 1971 and Seattle 2001). Even if they were as common as hurricanes on the gulf coast, I'd take earthquakes.
