Tesla Remote App

I purchased this app a month ago and haven’t used it but for a couple of times. I only used the Apple Watch Tesla Remote App for those two times. I had quit the app on my iPhone and the app wouldn’t run on the watch so I ran the app on my phone this morning. As usual I went to the garage and forgot my phone and wallet which is where I keep a key card. Did an unlock car on my watch and the car not only unlocked, but when I got into the car the screen said Keyless Driving enabled. I’m wondering what the downside might be of driving off. It’s very convenient but I don’t want to be somewhere down the road and not be able to drive. Your thoughts are appreciated.

The one thing I can think of is someone trying you door handle, it opens, and they drive off with your car. But I don't quite understand your description. You unlocked your car with your watch. Where was the phone? At home? Then when you go somewhere and turn off the car, you are stuck there if you don't have a phone or card, right? It worked at home because your watch was close enough to your phone to work.

Watch was on Bluetooth, and Wifi. Car is on WiFi and Bluetooth too. Phone was inside the house and not close enough to open the car. Maybe because the the Watch and the car have Bluetooth it works and there’s no issues if I’m on the road. The app has a keyless drive setting. I’ll test it tomorrow. Just tried it with no phone or keycard. Exit the car, shut the door and enter the car, keycard must be on console to drive.

I would be surprised if an app could allow the Tesla to drive without either a key card or phone present in the car. But even if it could I would not trust it. If you are away from home without your phone or key card and the app stops working you’re pretty much stuck.

I use the Apple Watch app that comes with “Stats”. It allows me to lock/unlock the car with my watch and adjust the temperature settings. I have a cellular watch version and have confirmed that it fully functions without having the Iphone present. But the only time I use it is to unlock the door in my garage when I don’t happen to have my phone or key card on me. It’s also a nice backup in case I lose my Iphone or the battery dies when I’m away from home.

You’re absolutely right OCR. I have an Apple Watch but I turned off cellular, I just didn’t use it enough. My watch is on WiFi in my garage. I tested keyless drive yesterday but I didn’t have my keycard, drove around the block, got out, shut the door, and when I got back in it said place card on console to drive. Lesson learned.
