The Tesla Roadster update, originally scheduled to go into production last year, won’t make it to market this year either.

Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk said on Twitter that the Roadster is being pushed back and will go into production in 2022.

“Finishing engineering this year, production starts next year,” he said. “Aiming to have release candidate design drivable late summer. Tri-motor drive system & advanced battery work were important precursors.”

The Roadster debuted in 2017, surprising the industry when it rolled out of the Tesla Semi during a Tesla presentation. The all-electric supercar is said to hit 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds and have more than 600 miles of range. Tesla took deposits of $50,000 and $250,000 for the Founders Series Roadster.

It sounds like they are going to be using the Plaid drive train. To outperform the Plaid S they’ll have to get the weight down and traction up, Thrusters could take care of both, but only if they were installed on every car :)
