And sealed gearboxes in 2014 leak? And honestly, Tesla would not risk not replacing it under warranty anyway.

I don't know of any that have leaked but all lubricants degrade over time, if for no other reason than the additives get used up. I suspect it degrades faster if the car has had a lot of Tesla grins :)

An example of this is the Prius PSD. Toyota doesn't have a recommended change interval, but lab analysis of the fluid shows by Prius group members shows that the 2G Prius needs this changed about every 40K miles to maintain proper lubrication (and 15K in the 1G).
