But they weren't wrong in suggesting that an ABQ location might have been preferable

Why stop there ? After all, it is preferable for Tesla to outfit every EV with a chauffeur and Tesla Ranger on house staff.

Had Tesla been able to choose between Nambe and Sandia, I could understand why people would ask why Tesla chose Nambe. But there is ZERO reason to think Tesla had that choice.

Kind of a weird ad hominem "appeal to authority" attack
More an appeal to stop acting like spoiled 3 year olds, let alone clueless and entitled do nothings.

Tesla should be able replicate this strategy in several other states.
It's surprising that it takes this long to think of this strategy.

Maybe once the Texas Gigafactory starts to sell cars to Texas customers, they can replicate this strategy and open up a transaction center in a Texas Tribal land so they don't have to haul new cars out of Texas first in order to prove that the transaction will be done outside of Texas.

So you sent me down the Google rabbit hole on this today. Surprisingly, there are only 3 tribal lands in all of Texas and they are small with really only 2 of them having land. 2 of them are very remote but Ysleta del Sur Pueblo has 2 sections of land in El Paso that are mostly used for housing and a rec center, one of them also has some small farm land too. Anyway, the most intriguing part is that the attached used to be a smoke shop that is now out of business.

Not sure how much this would help things though as El Paso is as far away from big metro areas as you can get. Making this a delivery center probably isn't very helpful and they would still have to ship out of state first right?

There is another tribal area called Alabama-Coushatta near Livingston, 3.5 hours from Austin and 1.5 hours from Houston. They also have a Casino and a lot more land for development, I guess it beats the alternatives.

There is a service center already in El Paso, for what it’s worth. It was the closest to me before the Nambe NM shop opened up.

I'm in the same boat. EDD 9/22-9/30 in Colorado Springs. Would love to pick up in Santa Fe instead, but when I called the main number to inquire (don't have a SA that I'm aware of), they said the NM location was in "soft" opening mode and not performing deliveries yet.

Anxious...
I visited the Nambe service center today (9/17) and learned they are primarily a service center right now. Deliveries (at least in large numbers) won’t start for a few months. The showroom is still a work-in-progress - no vehicles on display, though they are offering test drives.

Tesla timing is impeccable

My Model 3 had its first serious problem of its life today. It started up fine, but when I put it in gear multiple errors popped up that the car did not have power steering, traction control and other power functions. I called Tesla road-side service, who decided to tow the car when a reboot did not fix the issue.

First good thing: tow to Nambe, and not El Paso

Second good thing: Tesla arranged the tow truck, and it arrived within an hour. The driver was more knowledgeable than me about Tesla peculiarities surrounding towing. He was wearing a Tesla T-shirt, so either I lucked into a Tesla fan or Tesla has a pretty tight arrangement with a 3rd party towing service. I think the latter.

Third great thing: I forgot to leave the valet card in the car ! No problem -- the driver called me, and I remotely started the car. Phew ! I also forgot to disable the PIN. No problem, the car did not ask for it because of the remote start.

Fourth great thing: Our other car is a ~ 18 kWh LEAF that would have been tricky to use to drive when the car is fixed to Nambe and back to Albuquerque. But then I remembered that we have a train from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, and a bus from Santa Fe to Los Alamos that passes by the Tesla service center. I think the driver will agree to drop us off at Tesla, but worse case there is a stop 2.5 miles away at the Cities of Gold Casino. I can either walk or scoot.

There's probably a FREE shuttle from Cities of Gold to Buffalo Thunder (or at least there would have been in pre-pandemic times!). If you end up at CoG, you might try asking the shuttle driver to take you over to the service center. Sometimes they are just waiting around hoping for something to do.

EDIT: just looked at the CoG website and they still mention the shuttle so it should be running. Also, just noticed that the service center is very close to Buffalo Thunder and on the same side of the highway, so if you just take the shuttle to Buffalo Thunder, you should be able to easily walk to the service center. It's basically a half mile walk through a large casino parking lot and across a gas station parking lot.

Good guess ! The shuttle between Buffalo Thunder and Santa Fe is currently not in operation.
I still have two choices: The Santa Fe to Los Alamos route that has a stop at the Cities of Gold casino; or
The Santa Fe to Pueblos 'Blue Bus' that stops at Pojaque Supermarket.

I plan to give the Blue bus a call on Monday to see if drivers can make intermediate stops since my wife wants to join me. I'm pretty sure that the Los Alamos bus takes highway 285, while the blue bus may use the side local road.

Follow-up:
The Blue bus admin said the scooter would not be allowed, so I took the NMDOT regular sized bus instead that has storage compartments accessible from outside the bus. The driver was great, and the scoot was a very pleasant ~ 10 minute ride from the Cities of Gold casino to Tesla. It does help to have Google maps on a phone during the scoot because the service road jumps to either side of highway 285.

I’ve been to this service center twice now. Once on grand opening weekend and once the following weekend for a test drive. Nice place, nice people. Answered the few questions I had but couldn’t move my delivery to them.

I’ve been trying to get my early December delivery of MY moved from Colorado Springs, CO to Santa Fe, NM in hopes of saving an 8 hour round trip in the winter. It appears that the store in Santa Fe is only a Service Center at this time…. Here is the note I received from my SA yesterday. I’m a bit incredulous about this answer. Has anyone ordered a vehicle to be delivered to the Santa Fe location?

Note from Tesla SA: I removed his name and contact info…

“Good Afternoon Jack

Just getting back into the office from my vacation. As of right now the NM location is just a service center. We haven’t gotten any news as to when or if that location will become a delivery center. This was relayed to me by out delivery team. If anything changes, we will be sure to reach out with any additional options

Again, If you have a vehicle being delivered to the Santa Fe, NM location I’d love to hear about it

Wow…. Hope I get that call soon.
Well, it doesn't get you much so far. After them telling me for sure that my car would be available for pickup from Denver between 10-25 and 10-28 then offered to switch to Nambe without a change it delivery date, they changed my delivery date.

Apparently it takes 10 days to ship from PHX to Nambe for some reason as my car is apparently sitting in Scottsdale.

I wish I wouldn't have switched now

And it gets worse….

The Nambe location isn’t setup for deliveries after all. Even after directly asking my rep when my car would arrive and him still giving a time frame it was never going to come. My car is in limbo somewhere in Colorado for some reason and nobody knows exactly where or exactly when it would even show up. Had my delivery location changed to Littleton and in hindsight should have never changed it.

I will say the Santa Fe people have been the most helpful, the Littleton people have at least tried, my direct rep is the opposite of useful and that’s putting it nice.

Extremely frustrated.
