Tesla Software 2019.16.3

Emailed my original Deliver Specialist and asked about Pushing the update. She said they can't do that and you have to wait and need to be on WiFi. So I'm stuck on 2019.7 until I can find a WiFi to park my car at for several days????
Some use their Phone Hotspot for a WiFi Connection. I have heard of some that actually get a dedicated WiFi Hot Spot for the car (a little extreme). Some hook up to Starbucks while getting coffee. I have had some updates come via Cellular (my very first update was over cellular I believe). Anyway, the word is from Tesla pretty clearly they want to send out updates over WiFi at least "first". I first heard of the WiFi requirement for MAPS Only because they are so large but then started to hear even firmware updates required WiFi.

NOTE: I just look at a screen shot of the new Software Update Options. Maybe once on that version you will see when an update is available for download once you get on WiFi. I think I heard of someone who got that. Then you could hook up to your Phone WiFi Hotspot and hopefully it will download.

Confused: How does this help me get a software update???? I have free charging at my building also.

Julian, clicking on Charge Complete in the Tesla App notifications does not help you get your software update sooner. The reason that I replied to you is that you need to turn on Charge Complete in the Tesla App. Here is the information from Tesla Support:

The Tesla app allows owners to remotely monitor their vehicle, alerting them when their charge is nearly complete and again once fully charged. For every additional minute a car remains connected to the Supercharger, it will incur an idle fee. If the car is moved within 5 minutes, the fee is waived. Idle fees apply when a Supercharger station is at least 50% full, and double when the station is 100% full. To be clear, this is purely about increasing customer happiness and we hope to never make any money from it.

In the US, the idle fee (per minute) for a SC that is 50% full is 50 cents per minute if you stay connected to the charger more than 5 minutes after you finish charging. If the SC is 100% full the idle fee (per minute) is $1.00 per minute for each minute you stay connected past the 5 minute grace period.

I am currently on 2019.16.2 and there are three releases newer than mine. Some of the releases like 2019.16.3.1 are only being installed in Australia. Unless you are in Australia, you will probably never receive this release. Most model 3, S, and Xs are currently on 2019.16.2. If your release is older that 2019.16.2, there is no way you can force the update. Telsa's that are connected to WiFi will get the new releases the soonest. Those that do not have WiFi will eventually get the new releases but they will wait longer to get the new release. If you are having a technical problem with you Tesla and you take it in for service, if there is a newer release, you can ask them to push the new release to your car. The new release will be available a few hours after they push the new release to your car.

I hope this helps!

Got it and will turn on. I have a trip in mid July so that will be my first Super Charging. Although I may do a short Super Charge this weekend just to "play".

If you are charging and a Supercharger while on your trip, the Nav system may tell you that you only need X minutes of charge. The Tesla App will tell you that your charge has completed and you can resume your trip. If you cannot get back to your car in less than 5 minutes, restart the Supercharger by moving your state of charge to a higher percentage. This will keep you from being charged the idle fee. I normally do that every time I am traveling because I want and additional 20-30 miles more than the Nav system recommends.

You will use more energy than the Nav system predicts when you are driving into a strong headwind, driving when it is raining or snowing, climbing to higher altitude, or being rerouted due to an accident or a road closure. Extra energy in your battery is your friend. If you start running low on battery, the Nav system will tell you to slow down. You need to do this to make sure you can reach the next Supercharger.

Be careful what you wish for. My 3 has the two features and until ELDA can either be permanently turned off or greatly improved, I am glad my S doesn’t have it.

I hear you. My experience thus far w the elda and lda on the 3 w hw2.5 (and yes ive had both activate when i intentionally cross the lane) has been good so far - i found it behaving as i would expect. I am well aware a lot of ppl are having issues and don’t doubt there are things needing to be addressed asap. Curious are ppl who use autopilot heavily also having issue ( i try and use autopilot literally any chance i get even city streets). I can see this being an unnerving experience to those that didnt opt for autopilot or dont use it (i have several friends who opted not to buy it).

Just checked and mine says "Supercharging notifications are always on". Is this wrong and I still need to turn on? I don't want notifications on my "home" charging but ONLY Supercharging.

That'd be me.

I'm not sure I'd say I've had "issues" with LDA behaving unexpectedly. Poking around it it is largely the expected behavior is what I find unacceptable, for me. Fortunately I can turn it off indefinitely and plan to do so, outside of closed courses in Mexico. Conceptually; I use AP so much and so prevalently, if there are lanes well marked and I don't have AP on then why would I be interested in what the car's AI has to say about those lines, much less it grabbing the wheel?

ELDA though, that's crap as it stands. :p And it fires off anywhere, even places that you could never engage AP, under active steering, with a signal light on.

Crap indeed. The fact that I can’t turn it off permanently is infuriating. I almost never remember to turn it off before driving. And what about a a short trip to do errands with multiple stops? My memory is pretty good but I’ve got a lot of other things going on in my head to remember to turn the damn ELDA off.

How do we save videos on dash cam, when that icons is gone now?
Dashcam icon shouldn’t be gone. If it is, then it’s not reading your thumbdrive properly for some reason. Make sure it’s not full and try a two-button car reset. If that doesn’t work try reformatting the drive (after saving the videos you want to keep, of course). Make sure that TeslaCam folder is there.

I scoured the thread but saw that about 90% of the thread is regarding ELDA.

Has anyone with HW3 tried out NOA with no confirmation? I'm very curious to see how well HW3 performs compared to HW 2/2.5.
I am on HW3 and tried it yesterday. Seems to confirm you're hands are on the steering wheel before making the lane change. So, it's almost as if it's making you confirm in a different way. There were times when I had my hands on the wheel and made sure I had some force against it and it didn't ask to do that and just made the switch (I have the chime turned on to notify of the switch). Just seems sensitive, to me anyway, and really wanting to make sure your hands are on the wheel even if they are.

So you guys are saying I will NOT see a Notification of a new software update since my car is not connected to WiFi. I Have to go to a Service Center and have them push the Notification???? Odd that there are at least 3 and I'm in-between then all. This SEEMS obtuse to need drive to a Service Center just to have Tesla push EVERY update to me. Why can't they just show up in Notifications and then I can Hotspot my iPhone????
Since September 2018 I have only received one update via LTE, and it was an important one that went to all cars almost the same day. All the other updates are cosmetic (big updates, but not required), and need Wifi due to size. It sucks, but what other car updates remotely? So I can live with going to the SC once in awhile until I get Wifi. You can make an appointment for Software Update, but that is usually a long time to wait vs. just showing up and asking.

My car was in for service and before I came to pick it up I asked them if there was an update available and if so to push it to my car. I didn't just drive up and ask them to do that, wanted to clarify that.
I literally drive up, say I don't have an appointment, and ask them to push it. They do it. Maybe they are just being nice to me.

Julian you are correct, I forgot that Supercharging notifications are always on. The only reason you might want to turn on Charging Complete notifications is if you are charging at work and there are other EVs that need to charge, your Tesla App would tell you when to move your car so another EV can charge. I charge at home all the time except when I am on a trip and leave Charging Complete on.

Thank you. I just reformatted and it works now

Kinda confused (as always). I'm stuck on 7.1 and thought I didn't have Sentry Mode until I get the 16.x update. I don't see where to select it in the menu. I have a USB and pulled thinking I could see Dashcam. However it seems the clips are in a row and have all the time I'm parked and driving too. Looks like it is recording all the time on 7.1? I thought you even had to select Sentry Mode every time you got out of the car and was first available on 12.x (or something higher than 7.1). And that it only recored all the time on 16.x.

I have the same experience.

I turned off no confirmation. Seems easier to just signal when I want a lane change.

I drive with some traffic and it seems the Model 3 doesn't look far enough ahead like I would to determine lane changes. With little traffic it likely would work better. So for now I signal my lane changes.

I leave it in to ensure my settings are charging the car within my 6 hour window since the charging screen still does not give an estimate of when it will complete. I would much rather tell the car to charge to whatever percentage I have set within a time block, then try to adjust the charging rate manually. I like to charge at the lowest rate possible since it is easier on the battery.
