The SolarCity install I had done a few years ago used SolarEdge inverters and power optimizers. When I looked at the technology I was pretty impressed.
I just had my solar put in 3 months ago and I also got SolarCity.
Two notes: the guy sent out to fix it was surprised because he noted that they usually do not use that brand for normal single family homes as it is too high end.
And... the reason the guy was sent out to fix it was the original install team wired it in wrong. They messed up the lines and blew out the boards... likely because it was a unit they were not used to...
But they then quietly put the cover on, told me it was done, and went home never to return... I only found out a month later when PG&E told me I was cleared to turn it on...
- and then another month later when the repair guy came out, said it was broke, but the inside was like magic and voodoo to him, so he ordered a new one...
...and one more month the next repair guy showed up with the new one, opened the old one up, and said, basically... WTF is this crap? He seemed suspicious of me until he looked at the photos from install day and repeated his WTF comment... (well he was more polite... WTF was the voiceover in my head).
If you get lucky and they bring solaredge... watch them and make them prove they didn’t fry it before they leave...
They are basically sending out Soviet trained Yugo mechanics to build your Lamborghini with stone knives and bear skins...
