Tesla is requesting a special exemption use permit for a new supercharger at 4455 Transit Road, Clarence, New York (near Buffalo). They are on the agenda of tomorrow night's Town Board meeting.

Regional thread on this supercharger here.
First report from Mr. Bigby.

I posted a thread on the TM forums with all the information. Great find, Mr. Bigby!

The town hall meeting was a great success! Here's the full report from RonaldA from the TM forums:

"First I would like to thank those that were able to attend the Clarence town meeting and spoke in favor of the supercharger last night. It was a pleasure meeting you and a happy result with the permit unanimously approved by the board. The supercharger will be in the plaza at the corner of route5 and transit road next to the key bank. There will be 8 stations and I am told they expect it to be completed by the end of December.I did take the guys from Tesla to Duffs and had some conversations. I was told the permitting for the Syracuse charger would be relatively soon (w/in a couple of weeks) and they anticipate that charger to be installed "soon". I asked if this was a Tesla soon or the real definition of soon and the assured me it was a real soon probably in January if all goes well. The also said the idea was to build out superchargers so 60kwh cars could travel wherever they needed to go. They stated that a supercharger in every city along the 90 in NY was part of the plan including possibly Rochester and probably Utica. I emphasized the need in Erie PA to bridge the gap between Buffalo and the supercharger highway starting in Cleveland or Cranberry PA. Currently Cranberry is the closest supercharger on this stretch of the 90 and is a 209 mile trek. Not really in 60kwh range especially in winter (I'm trying it with my p85 at the end of November ). I also encouraged the Ithaca/Binghamton site to open up the southern tier and the I81 routes. They said with superchargers its generally feast or famine for installs and we are headed toward another feast! I was very encouraged. For those in Syracuse please let us know when the permit meeting is I for one would love to attend!"

Glad to hear the great news!

With Buffalo, West Springfield, and Auburn on the way, Superchargers near Erie, PA and Syracuse, NY certainly make a lot of sense to complete the I-90 route across upstate New York and southern New England to Boston, not to mention connecting Toronto.

Tesla just posted this on their Facebook page.

In October, Tesla Superchargers delivered 2 GWh of energy to Model S. That's twice as much as the 1 GWh milestone reached in June. All for free.

I was looking for destination charging on http://www.teslamotors.com/findus and found a SpC listed as live that was somewhat off the radar. Salisbury, MD. Not on the SpC page's "Currently Open" or "Coming Soon" maps. Completely missed by supercharge.info (this is not a criticism, they do great work).

This gives me hope that secret construction is going on somewhere in the 370 miles between me and the Colonie (Albany), NY location.

Operational + Under Construction + Permit SuperChargers now over 300 (301 right now) according to supercharger.info
And every now and then a new SuperCharger pops up straight into operational or under construction, so it's likely there are a few they haven't caught yet in earlier stages !
They just keep popping up everywhere.
Its looking like 450+ operational by end of 2015 !

The world-side turn on rate has hit 25 per month for the last 4 months and seems to be increasing. With those numbers, the total could hit 500-600 hundred by the end of 2015. Let's hope Tesla keeps up the pace!

One notable omission here is Petaluma, CA. There are pics of the construction in the Northern CA SCs forum.

If we would talk about a prediction for 2015, I would say that we could see about 300 new live Supercharger stations during 2015 (globally). So, I am actually very optimistic about the future expansion of the global Supercharger network.

There are mainly two arguments to support this prediction of about 300 new live Supercharger stations during 2015 (globally):
- geographical expansion;
- much higher reservations/orders/production/deliveries/sales and that will result in much higher revenues/investments in 2015.

Do you honestly think there is logic in having 600 worldwide SuperChargers ? Its not like we expect Tesla to expand into Latin America, Africa or a few other countries where even the Model 3 might be too expensive. For instance, at US$ 40k + exchange rate + import duties the car would arrive in Brazil at twice the price of a Prius...
I think this breakneck pace will slowdown at 500 SCs, but there will be significant expansion of many high demand SCs.

Edit... I meant 600 worldwide SuperChargers in the next 2-3 years. Of course in 5-10 years its likely there will be thousands of SCs worldwide, but just because there is an interstate in the middle of nowhere with low traffic it doesn't mean tesla want to put SCs there before 2020ish.

I think after Tesla filled the midwest gaps connecting TX east, north and west, connecting Atlanta to Chicago plus San Fran with Denver and Seattle with Chicago plus filling upstate NY with a dozen SCs the focus will be on major upgrades of SCs where big Model S/X business is happening.

I think Tesla is on the verge of major uptick in Model S demand for Limo/Uber/Cab service. As long as SCs coverage is available, high milleage MS is much cheaper over a 5 year period than a ICE or a hybrid. Drive 250k miles and the full cost of the MS might be paid off in gas/maintenance savings alone. So I think there will be some deals worth thousands of MS for Limo/Uber/Cab service in exchange for Tesla installing a few SCs in each city where the MS will be operated. And its the best way to help the environment, selling a MS to be driven 10-20k miles / yr doesn't save much oil, the best usage for a MS is 100k miles / yr and up.
