I did some sleuthing around North Stamford, CT looking for any obvious construction around the junctions of the Merritt Parkway and Long Ridge Road and High Ridge Road. I found nothing in the immediate areas of either of those.. but about 2.5 miles down High Ridge Road from the Merritt (near Bull's Head Diner), I found this construction site in the rear parking lot of Lord and Taylor:

I got a little closer, and they're definitely building something power related with lots of curbs:

upload_2017-6-30_15-11-54.png

I did not see any Tesla related materials (yet).

Here's a google map of the parking area: Google Maps

So, while it's not exactly North Stamford or Stamford (near I-95), it could be the site of a larger SC location in the works. Or could be entirely unrelated construction, like a staging area for some other project. It's a pretty good area, with some restaurants, CVS, banks, hotel, etc within walking distance. It's only about 5-7 minutes from the Merritt, which to compare, is a lot better than the SC in Woodbridge, VA at the Potomac Mills Mall, which is not easy or fast to get to from 95.

Next time I'm in Stamford during the week, I plan to go to the P&Z office to see if I can track down any more info.

It does look like parts for some kind of electricity related project. The Tesla specific parts might still be in the trailers.

Tesla has built enough superchargers now, they probably put together SC kits that load into X number of semi trailers with all the components needed.

Well Hank, you found something, that's a start. Based on the photos it doesn't look like any supercharger install I've seen so far though. Who knows, maybe it's going to be for a VERY high power supercharger with all that utility looking equipment.

Here is an update on the status of North American "Coming Soon" superchargers. There were by my count 283 on the Find Us page as of April 24th which claimed to have a target opening date in 2017. 11 stations came online in May and 10 in June (including expansions), which is a pace which would complete about 30% of Tesla's ambitious 2017 supercharger network expansion plans. Below is a list of the 10 sites that came online in June and the 40 sites for which we have information or at least rumors on their location. The pace of openings will soon increase, as right now the number of sites in permitting and under construction is about as high as it has ever been.

Thanks for your efforts, there seems to be room at both Napa and Petaluma not sure they will expand or do new. San Rafael has 20 level 2 chargers at the Target, wondering if they will install there.

I've looked through electrical permits in Toledo and can not find any that would fit the bill. For argument/rumor/conversation I will venture a guess that the new Toledo, Oh location will be located at the Meijer store on the corner of Alexis and Hagman just south of the MI/OH line. In addition to the Meijer Store (as a corporation they host at least 8 locations) there are several fast food outlets and easy access to I-75. This would catch travelers from the east (Cleveland, Macedonia)on I-280 heading toward Detroit without sending them a bit out of the way through Maumee. It would also be an alternative for the N-S I-75 traffic that must use Maumee.

There is still missing a Supercharger location on CA-140 between Merced, CA and Yosemite National Park. This route is usually open all year vs the CA-120.

My wife prefers the CA-140 route because she is more comfortable not seeing the deep cliff view from the passenger side when on the CA-120 route.

I think you are forgetting the 25 in Canada and 1 in Mexico (at least I'm guessing that isn't in the USA count). So according to supercharge.info today there are 372 superchargers in North America, and so far 11 new ones this year. That's 361 to be doubled in 2017. That's one per day, with an allowance for one missed day per quarter.

I sure hope they have a clear plan to achieve this, as it seems a real stretch to me. The hard part so far has been permitting and getting the utilities to do their bit; accelerating those things won't be simple. Perhaps they mean to change direction and deploy a whole bunch to two slot "temporary" superchargers? Even so they don't seem to have solved the slow charging problem, and there's the hint that a new generation of superchargers is coming soon. This is a real puzzle.

And yes, they're way off the pace.

So we're past the halfway point of 2017. How's Tesla doing on its promised doubling of North American supercharger locations (see their February 2017 letter to shareholders)?

Well, they've picked up the pace a little bit lately, but it still looks utterly hopeless. As of June 30 they had reached 398 locations operational. That's 37 new locations this year over the 361 locations they started with. In 181 days. To reach their goal they needed to open just about one new location per day.

They've opened five more in July so far, but that's still not close to one a day. As it stands, for the rest of the year they'll have to open new supercharger locations at the rate of 1.8+ per day to make their goal. I don't think that's going to happen.

How many existing locations have had more plugs added?

This is why I think "locations" must mean "pedestals." Opening a few more of these 40-stall sites like Kettleman City will make a dent in their promise.

And they might miss. ;)

The words mean what they mean, not something else. In this blog post from April Tesla refers to the individual pedestals as Superchargers. The quote from the shareholder letter refers to Supercharger locations. Different things. Either way they are way, way behind. I don't see how they can achieve what they said they would.

I am skeptical they'll reach their goal, too. It'll be interesting to see how close they come.

Yes, they've been pretty careful to use those two different terms at different times when talking about building out the network, listing the global count of Superchargers and Supercharger locations.

According to Blueshift, today, Friday July 14, there are 25 SC sites under construction and another 13 in various stages of permitting here in the US. It is quite likely that these will all be up and operational by year end, bringing the total to 375+25+13, or 413.

It is anyone's guess how feverish the construction pace will be once these sites are complete. But I would be surprised if we reach 450 in the next five and one-half months. Hope I am wrong.
