Almost a year ago, when charging options were fewer, I needed to do an overnight in Phoenix, AZ. Found a hotel near the hospital I had to visit that had a pair of level 2 chargers. When I thanked the desk clerk for their presence, she explained, "The owner has two Volts."

2012: 0 + 0 + 2 + 7 = 9
2013: 0 + 2 + 11 + 28 = 41
2014: 32 + 16 + 19 + 26 = 93
Total: 9 + 41 + 93 = 143

Europe
2013: 0 + 0 + 6 + 8 = 14
2014: 0 + 10 + 46 + 44 = 100
Total: 14 + 100 = 114

Asia
2014: 0 + 3 + 16 + 24 = 45 (Including: 2 in Sydney, Australia)

Global total: 143 + 114 + 45 = 302

2014 total so far: 93 + 100 + 45 = 238

Q1 2014 total: 32 + 0 + 0 = 32
Q2 2014 total: 16 + 10 + 3 = 29
Q3 2014 total: 19 + 46 + 16 = 81

177 new live Supercharger stations in 170 days (in second half of 2014), that's even more than 1 new live Supercharger station per day, that's extraordinary!!!

Actually, I think that the total number will be a few more, as some of the red dots are on top of each other on this map.

Using the excellent data from supercharge.info, I count 1712 Tesla stalls open as of tonight! That's an average of over five and a half stalls per station.

@Blueshift, if you're reading this, I think a prominent display of the open stall count would help Tesla win the VHS/Betamax charging standards war. The number of Tesla stations is often compared unfavorably to the total number of e.g. CHAdeMO chargers by people who don't understand the difference.

This is a really good point. We should be talking about "SuperCharger sites" (300+) and also talk about SuperChargers (1700+).
 
It's all about our little blue marble! We have to save it over time by using the power of sunlight. Tesla is the only car company that gets it. I know it is a very altruistic goal but if we don't seriously start somewhere, and somewhere big like auto transportation and power storage, we slide further down the slippery slope of tipping our blue marble further and further out of balance!

We don't have to save Earth. We have to save life on Earth. Earth will be here long after we're gone. It might seem like semantics, but I think it's an important distinction.

Congrats to those who purchased a Tesla to attain such lofty goals as saving the planet or life on the planet. I hope there will be many thousands after you with these same ambitions, but personally I bought mine for the joy and exhilaration of the ride. Pure and simple. The soon demise of the blue marble has been bandied about for centuries and yet she and her inhabitants are still here. I predict they will still be here long after Ms. Blitz and I have departed our earthly existence.

Right. Life on Earth has been reduced by 90% several times during its 4 billion year history. I'd just as soon not cause another 90% reduction. I'd also like to see humans go interplanetary (to start).

Elon's goal of sustainable transport counted because we're just playing "Easter Island" with the planet, but my other main reasons were:

I dislike paying for things where I only end up with a receipt. Gas is one of them. I'd rather pay a little to the electric company than a lot to the oil companies. I'd have solar if it would reduce the amount I pay the electric company to close to zero, but right now the best case day is something like 40%, and it needs to be 80% or more. Otherwise it's like getting two electric bills.

I wanted to get rid of the ICE and it's maintenance.

I didn't want to purchase from a dealer.

The Tesla was the first car with enough range to actually be used as car. Having to worry about whether you can go to work or to the airport and back without doing a charge along the way just doesn't make sense to me. I signed up for the Leaf when it was supposed to be a 100 mile car, but as no dealer wanted to sell one and then it turned out that the 100 miles was based on the 10 mph test cycle and that on a bad day you could only expect 50 miles... It's being able to make it on a bad day that's the important number.

Now that we have over 300 SC locations world wide, maybe we should talk about adding solar canopies to every single one of them.

Last I heard the solar option was only used at 2 locations. Is that still the same?

That's still the same, but 300 locations is nowhere near enough. 1500 would be closer to the mark to start retrofitting solar where possible. First a driver needs to be able to drive almost anywhere without a lot of planning. Today that's only possible in a few areas.

Not sure that's ever been true. At least four CT locations have solar (Milford NB, SB; Darien NB, SB) and some of the original Cali stations have it as well.

While I know the solar panels exist, is there any direct correlation to the Tesla charging units? The panels in CT are on the canopy that covers the gasoline pumps. There isn't a canopy over the Tesla stalls.

Although I hope they do solar canopies everywhere, they are more of a statement than anything that will generate a significant percentage of the SC network's power. Given the square footage available, the array will generate enough electricity to fill only one to two cars a day. There will need to be massive solar farms that will provide an offset to, but don't directly power the Superchargers.

However, these canopies might improve the economics of remote Superchargers (e.g. I-10 west of San Antonio). I imagine that aside from extraordinary events (such as Teslive), a canopy array plus a few 85 kW batteries would easily be able to handle the demand off-grid.
