Blog Tesla to Enable Video Playback for Parked Cars

With current charging capabilities, electric vehicles will inevitably require some waiting around. But Tesla has been doing what it can to help owners entertain themselves.

The most recent entertainment addition is support for video playback, Chief Executive Elon Musk said on Twitter. The feature will be available while the car is in park and connected to a WiFi network. Tesla made a similar move with TeslAtari, an in-car gaming system with titles like Missile Command, Asteroids, Lunar Lander, and Centipede.

Musk did not offer a specific rollout date or details for Tesla’s in-car video playback capabilities, however when asked if the feature will support video streaming services like Netflix and YouTube he replied “Version 10.”

Tesla’s plan to enable video streaming will certainly benefit from a planned upgrade to the Supercharger Network, which provide free WiFi to Tesla owners recharging their cars.

Video streaming isn't hard, and the CPU will be otherwise unoccupied while in park. So I'd bet they will roll it out to all cars.

Seeing how the original post he made was taken down (from what I am seeing) I'm thinking this one is on the back burner or just an Elon thought at this point.. I pray I'm wrong

They have Wifi at the Dublin SC/Supercharger. Makes the time go by pretty quick. Glad to see they are adding at other Superchargers. But, I really just want better cell service everywhere. My phone already becomes a Wifi hot spot.

Was surprised that this option was enabled already, but converting a phone to a wifi hotspot and playing video on a tablet works just fine.

Should allow TESLA to playback video when waiting to charge in line..... that’s when we stay in our cars ! Have it GEO Fenced to within 200m of Superchargers!

Yet another lame implementation of something my phone does WAAAY better. Sigh, why does Tesla waste its time on re-inventing this *sugar* and just get on with screen mirroring from capable and up to date mobile devices??

Lousy browser, calendar, nav, podcast player, sketch pad, antique Atari game, .... and now Mr Innovation brings us a video player!

I'd like to be able to review the dashcam and sentry mode videos on my Tesla screen. It would be a logical add to making video available
