Just an observation of a scene in "Demolition Man"... IIRC Sandra Bullock is riding along in a car, talking on the phone or something... after the end of her call she days to the car "activate self-driving mode" - and the car complies... by popping a steering wheel out of the dash, which she grabs.

In other words... the default mode is that the car does the driving. "Self-driving" in this movie means the rider is electing to control the car him/herself. :)

I'm sure Elon regards that as a natural progression for Tesla cars... and seeing it in an otherwise cheesy future-tech sci-fi bubblegum movie like "Demolition Man" gave him a chuckle

I just finished reading The Battle of Midway. I wish there was a category beyond “love” for this post. The courage and sacrifice of those young men continues to this day to leave me speechless and profoundly moved. Thank you for sharing.

Funny but...since it's sorta kinda off topic: you can place my uncle in one of those pilot's seats. A Navy dive bomber on the carrier Franklin, during the Battle of Leyte Gulf the rest of his squad, all greenhorns fresh out of Flight Training, were so paralyzed by the intense anti-aircraft fire that none would get in their planes. Uncle Nick, by then a grizzled ancient 23-year old, went aloft by himself and won the Navy's highest award, the Navy Cross, by performing what I call the 'Star Wars Maneuver': he managed to lob a 500-lb bomb right through the anchor hawse of the superbattleship Yamato. While thus breaching the "impenetrable" hull of the largest battleship the world ever has seen he did not sink it directly, but that did cripple it enough that it retired from action, to be sunk rather ignominiously shortly thereafter on the beaches of Okinawa.

Dad also was in the Battle of Leyte Gulf but saw no such glorious action. Both survived the War and stayed active in business the rest of their lives. Amazingly, both lived exactly 1 month, 1 week and 1 day into their 94th years. May all of us be so productive for so long.

Prometheus Unbound is a four-act lyrical drama by Percy Bysshe Shelley, first published in 1820.[1] It is concerned with the torments of the Greek mythological figure Prometheus, who defies the gods and gives fire to humanity, for which he is subjected to eternal punishment and suffering at the hands of Zeus.

Drew a blank (on Demolition Man) after that, then ...

A search for "Demolition Man" and "Prometheus Unbound" turned up this, which sentiment seemed to fit.

... even if it is a different Stallone character.
Tormented Greek figure you say

Hi folks,

Just so you know the level of competetive progress that GM has made in its 30 year history of EV prototypes:

THIRTY YEARS OF GM PROGRESS:

2022 GMC Hummer EV:

Albeit, that's "virtual" progress because the 1992 prototype was real (made from carbon fiber by Scaled Composites in Mojave, California), whereas the 2022 prototype is a computer rendering (made from photons in Wallyworld, Wakanda).

The End can't come soon enough. :p

Cheers!

Give it bit more ground clearance (or variable height suspension) and this is actually something I'd love to own.
Bent steel plates for rough trucks, cast composite bodies for normal cars.
Fused front/rear doors to reduce part count.

Love it.
Just lose the mirrors :p

Far from thinking my Thursday family night would be occupied by a movie suggested by Elon’s tweet.

at least now my kids know what the year 2032 will look like.

they were fans of beyond meat ratburgers.
My 2 older sons seemed to appreciate the actress.

Nice actress, you say, well just so happens that the reviews are very good on RT, so lining that one up for the holiday season...

Hoping today won’t be disappointing. With the Gs upgrade, I am expecting an above 600 finish and push through the MMs, and hold against option sellers. Anyone thinking Possibly another vaccine news on Monday to bring to ATH?

Troy offers his latest forecast for 2021.

https://twitter.com/TroyTeslike/status/1334718363944292353

To summarize:
Fremont: 398K
Shanghai: 432K
Berlin: 27K
Austin: 10K
Grand Total: 867K

My 2 cents:
Fremont and Shanghai look about right, though his Model Y numbers might be on the low side. If 550K in Shanghai happens as rumored, then we are looking at 1M grand total.

I believe his numbers for Berlin and Austin are way too low, but everything hinges on how quickly DBE is scaled up. IMO, the fact construction on both sites proceeds at such a rapid pace bodes well for how quickly they will ramp. Troy is being very conservative with only 37K (27K in Q4 alone) between them. It could end up being 3-4x that.

It looks to me that Troy's production estimates are rather low for next year.

Production capacity is 590k at Fremont at end Q3, multiply by 0.85 to get actual production this is about 500k, but the Model Y is still ramping up so I would expect a few more than 500k from Fremont. Shanghai looks about right maybe a bit high, production capacity at end of next year is supposed to be 550k, 85% of that is 467k, but the total for next year will be lower as they are ramping up.

If Berlin are ramping up to 500k at end 2022 starting mid 2021 a very rough estimate would be capacity of 150k at end of 2021 and production of 25% of that capacity so maybe 40k. Austin is about one quarter behind Berlin but the factory is larger so a guess of 20k.

To summarize my guestimate:
Fremont: 500k
Shanghai: 400k
Berlin: 40k
Austin: 20k
Grand Total: 960k
