I wonder if there's some speculative buying based on the mystery Berkshire Hathaway stake, rumored to be disclosed this weekend.
I've heard the rumor they took a stake, but why would it be disclosed this weekend? Is there a source for that?

If the stake an entity has in a public company rises above 5% during a calendar year, that must be disclosed in a 13G filing within 45 days after the end of that year. More broadly, an investment manager with more than $100 million in assets, must file a 13F to disclose its holdings within 45 days after the end of each quarter.

o_O Huh? Seems pretty clear to me: "we expect to achieve 50% average annual growth in vehicle deliveries."

Would you have been happier if they said they expect to deliver about 750k vehicles in 2021, 1.125M vehicles in 2022, etc.?

That isn't clear guidance especially when they said 2021 could be more and skewed towards tail end of the year. I believe they are sandbagging it and didn't want to get tied into their statements like last January. Just stating 50% growth is much different than saying we expect to sell 850-950k vehicles in 2021. That is what GB is saying when there wasn't clear guidance. It was vague and deliberately so.

Do you really expect a specific hard guidance in the current climate? When they can't what will happen with COVID and possible closures. When they can't be sure of their chip supplies, etc. What if Germany delays permit approvals? There is just too much completely out of their control to give specific attainable guidance.

Was thinking the same thing. Supposedly 2/14 is the big day. Maybe it is something else moving the stock, but it is nice to see it go up. I'm still going to be forced to buy stock from the puts I sold, but I'll be happy to buy stock at $840 and $850 today knowing it will be over $900 soon. Now I'm buying to open call options for Jun 2021 as the IV's look good.

If he had just taken some profits and trimmed back his position 10% or 20%, I think that would have been understandable. When you completely sell out, the shift in endowment effect can radically alter your perception of value in ways that others can find hard to understand.
Ah yes, Disendowmentalization.

Sometimes a very painful syndrome especially viz a viz, ahem, certain enduring growth stocks.

As we’ve seen on this thread, it is an unusual syndrome in that, if not reversed, the trauma only becomes more painful with time and can lead to irrational outbursts that alienate former friends and allies.

/jk, er, sort of. ;)

In positive news, I went on a run through Atherton [basically the richest place here]. I went on a different route and surprisingly saw 3 mansions with absolutely massive Tesla Solar Roofs on them. Next time I will snap a picture.

Here is the google maps 3D view of the house. That's all Tesla Solar tiles folks. Had a model 3 parked too. Looked into it a bit and owned by some former Yahoo exec who bought one of first roadsters too.
