"Serious truck folk" are already deep in truck dogma land. It will take them a while to recover.

That's why the Cybertruck will, ironically, be enjoyed first primarily by people who aren't already too deep into the truck culture because they like to "belong". That desire to "belong" to a group or class of people is what drives over half of all truck sales in the US. You don't buy a Cybertruck in order to be seen as "fitting in", LOL! However, those most looked up to in the truck communities should be early adopters because you don't get to be a leader by following.

If CP keeps dragging F150s, tough guys will need to upgrade to keep their macho image. I think they will respect the raw, brutal power ...

Saw in a FUD article saying Tesla target 50k per year for CT, is this number mentioned somewhere or by Elon?
I could not remember seeing any such number being mentioned before.

Who else increased leverage on Friday? ;)

Only wish I'd done so more aggressively ;) But I had to account for the chance of a more protracted / deeper slide.
Courage! This shorty-short week is not over yet. ;) Only remember, Friday is half-day.

I have family spread across Texas that are serious truck folks, have pinged them on CTruck to gauge reaction from the Heartland. Will report back, might be some good data points relevant to investors.
The first reaction to a new design is always "Eww, yuck", so first reactions aren't important. A historical parallel was "American Bandstand" (yeah, the one with Dick Clark). They asked kids to rate the latest song as to whether it would be a hit or a flop. The kids almost always rated them as a flop (this was the first time they heard the song). They were almost always wrong.

Earth to GM president: The "Electric cars going mainstream" train already left the platform.
Sorry you were not on it...

"Electric cars going mainstream"

Tesla's still driving the momentum train right now. I checked local Jaguar and Audi dealerships in Ft. Myers & Naples (East Coast ie Ft. Lauderdale had even more inventory) and they all have plenty of I-Pace and E-tron's in stock with left overs from last year heavily discounted & languishing at the dealerships. US sales still very weak for both products. OTOH, I see plenty of Teslas (I convinced two of my immediate neighbors to buy an S & X respectively this year) cruising around Naples.

The market doesn't know what to think about Cybertruck. I don't think it gets priced in to the share price until 2021 when Tesla starts producing it and people can see what it actually does. Maybe not even until 2022 because there will be FUD about demand. It's going to be a repeat of all the model 3 FUD.

IMO, there is a massive amount of skepticism built into the share price around Model 3 production from Shanghai GF3. Success there is going to be important to the short term direction of the share price. All the same FUD will come too about lack of demand in China to support continued production in GF3.

You can bet that SAF are spamming SEC about Elon's weekend tweeting. One assumes that Elon has checked with the Twitter nanny regarding what he would be disseminating. TBH, I would have preferred all these to have come from the official Tesla account, after which Elon could re-tweet and discuss.
Tweeting details about the product should be okay. In my opinion, the only tweets that probably should have come from Tesla were the reservation counts. Even then, they were simple facts tweeted well outside trading hours, so I think the SEC would have to have quite an extreme vendetta to go after Elon for any of this, and they'd be risking more egg in the face. I don't think we'll see any SEC action (but who knows).

Specious moderation in here today. Embarrassing.
My interpretation is discussion around the design, features, or appealing of such a thing is forbidden.
But the financial numbers, ramp up plans, or (absence of)competition etc that would have impact to SP can still be discussed.
Nope. MODS deleted my comment this morning asking Financial Whizzes how many reservations it would take to drive F to unprofitability by delaying certain sales for 2-3 yrs as people wait for new products.

Remember what the Model 3 did to BMW? Like that's effect is not revelant to SP and Tesla's long term success. Model 3 saved Tesla, and has mortally wounded BMW who now nolonger have the profitability to fund a credible transition to EVs.

Specious moderation up in here today. Embarrassing when applied heavy-handedly and unevenly. Anyway, I'm done. Chat amongst yourselves. Catch y'all laters.

The reality is any other company coming out with the news on orders that Elon released would have gained back most of what it lost last Friday. As we all know, the challenge is with all the FUD, including form the likes of CNBC this a.m. (LeBeau was in rare form minimizing the 200,000 #), it is very hard for Tesla to gain its footing without news that cannot easily be refuted. The main challenge is likely that we have big auto/big oil $ being used to pressure the stock whenever it seems to gain some traction. Unlike the pure shorts and hedge funds, these folks likely do not care about taking some losses, as the key is to ensure that Tesla goes away at some point. The value in that far outweighs any temporary paper (or even real) losses. It still shocks me that the SEC does not look into the obvious manipulation that is present in Tesla stock - in particular the blatantly false stories that are distributed utilizing mainstream media.

I'm not surprised by the drop in share price rise after this morning's gain Just like the Model 3 unveiling back in 2016 and the stock surged the next morning, the surging fizzled by the end of the day. But the stock then progressively went north later on.

Historical stock pricing here: Tesla, Inc. (TSLA) Stock Historical Prices & Data

I'll probably buy some small chunks later today.

We might be surprised.

They love big pickups but were all over my Model S when I showed up for a visit last year. Some took me up on my offer to drive it, and loved it, with lots of good questions about the technology. So this will be a good test for the pull of cool new technology vs the threat to traditional manly-man truck styling.

There is a collaborative spreadsheet of reservation numbers. Has anyone done a breakdown by state?
