Usually there are ways around those kind of patents. Or they can get the patent nullified because it's obvious.

Camera based speed limit detection would be pretty valuable even without the elusive FSD capability. It would also probably solve much of the ghost braking that is often due to overhead crossings with different speed limits than the road that you are crossing and the GPS based system getting confused. The workarounds or patent nullification must be pretty hard given that it has soon been 4 years since Tesla and Mobileye parted ways - and there has been no hint as to when and if we might get the feature.

Edit; Unless the plan is to demonstrate how far ahead Tesla is in the FSD race before the nullification attempt and how ridiculous it is that this kind of patent is in holding them back.

Apple is a marketing company. They understand the value of greenwashing, so they stick solar panels on the roof of their headquarters. Whoop-de-do. We are talking about the company who literally invented the whole idea of soldering batteries permenantly into the phone or ipad or laptop to make it impossible to buy replacements, and create a technological waste mountain. They are the company who are wolrd leaders in tax avoidance. They are the company who are world leaders in having shiny, clean-looking products made in what amounts to sweatshop conditions in the cheapest country they can find.

Teslas mission is to accelerate the transition to renewable energy to save mankind from climate change.
Apples mission is to just make as much money as possible, and pay as little of it in tax or wages as they can.

The day apple get involved with tesla is the day I sell every single share I own, and the car too.
You are as ignorant about Apple as TSLAQ is about Tesla. Posting stuff like this just makes you look uninformed. And, of course, a stupid opinion about Apple is utterly off topic as regards Tesla.

None of the US launches ever suffered a launch failure that required the as-designed escape system to save the crew.

The Russians have had to do it twice, once off the pad and once during ascent.

The Shuttle designers thought they could rely on system reliability/redundancy to land the whole Orbiter safely (albeit possibly at an overseas landing site) in case of failures. The Challenger and Columbia accidents were outside their planning.

The Apollo 1 fire was during a spacecraft test, not launch. But in any case, the fire was inside the capsule, so a launch abort system would not have saved the crew.
There is this, but nobody was onboard:

Tesla still doesn't have a consumer-facing method to detect speed limits using cameras. The assumption has been that this is due to Mobileye having a patent for camera based speed limit detection. Does someone know (or do everyone but me know) how they are going to solve this given that the patent expires in September 2030? It seems kinda necessary for FSD which elon was expecting to be in working order by the end of this year.
Karpahy talked for 120 seconds how many different stop signs there are (in the US). Guess how many different speed limit signs there are.
They start with one and solve the other similar problems later on. Getting the speed limit right is almost as vital as getting the stop sign right.

One terribly minor quibble. Like all cars, Teslas do need SOME regular maintenance. Namely, tires need to be changed periodically (and my experience in 8 years of driving Teslas, the tire changes are more frequent - must be all that torque and my joy of darting away from stop lights).

And wiper blades. At least Model X has special wiper blades that dispense the wiper fluid from the blade body - can't be found at automotive parts stores, and are going to cost me $85 to get them swapped.

So there is regular maintenance. It's just infrequent and really minor, and consistent with regular stuff other cars would need.

Thanks for this. I don't want to disagree, but arguably, wiper blades and tires aren't what many people would consider scheduled "maintenance", i.e. pay a specialist to (hopefully, honestly) check something I can't, and tell me if I need to repair or replace it. I don't need an expert to tell me if my wipers need to be replaced, and most people can see if their tires need replacing. But point taken ;)

Just as an FYI: E*Trade has started lending, a very few of, my TSLA shares lately which hasn't happened in a long time. (Paying me 0.5% which means the lending rate is 1%, up from the GC 0.3% that S3 says TSLA normally runs at.)

I'm not sure what that means, I don't think it means that shorting has greatly increased, but it must mean something.

Do y'all think they're going to announce the Battery Day on the ER day?
I don't think so. No need to move the focus from financial results. Bty day will be its own signature event.

I noticed that Tesla China is now hiring for the Bty Workshop in Shanghai. I hope they produce the 'new technology' pack there. But I do think that the Bty Day demo will be in the USA. I'm most interested to find out more about the secretive 'Colorado Bty lab', and there have been some permits issued for Fremont Bty equipment.

Cheers!

I presume this accounts for the 8 'Disagrees'... o_O

:D Not my taste either! I'm just sayin', appeal to those other than ourselves!

I'm kinda surprised, honestly, by all the disagrees with my post and @Jackl1956 . Is it:
  • "No, Tesla doesn't need to advertise", but why?
    • "because they sell all they make"?
    • "because Elon's Twitter and public memes - like the Cyrbertruck window-smash 'fiasco' - reach everyone we care about"?
    • "we don't want people who consume popular culture over TV to buy a Tesla" (which surely runs counter to Elon's mission)?
  • Or Tesla DOES need to advertise, but:
    • "you picked all the wrong things to promote"?
    • "Tesla's aren't the safest cars ever tested" or some other argument?
I'm really not sure!

Sudden jump from 708 to 722. Any news?

Breaking news:

Tesla is still the #1 EV maker in a world that needs to transition to sustainable transport.

Most people and funds don't own any TSLA yet. That will change in a drastic way as soon as TSLA is added to the S&P 500. Yes, more people want to buy than people who want to sell.

Any questions? ;)

Well, you're not new here so I guess you skipped over the previous discussions about advertising. I think most of the disagrees were probably from people like me who think Tesla will advertise if and when it would offer some benefit and who also believe lengthy silly debates whether Tesla should advertise at this point in time don't belong here.
