This could be the dumbest bear attack I've ever witnessed. Unless someone knows something we don't then this was a downgrade coordinated attack. The dumb part being they are doing this a day before earnings...the fear of a profit is very real if they are trying to leave this early

This might be one of the last bear raids for a while. I think they are looking to shake out longs with stop losses. The bears know it’s going to get really expensive to do this on Thursday. Might also be options related.

I only make TSLA purchases in conjunction/timing with ARK ... they have sold "a lot" of shares due to balancing rqmts over the past month or so ... I do not have that kind of discipline and ... we may never see some of those SP again
So many people have a mental block when it comes to this. Ark sells a fund. If that fund wound up being 50% TSLA then it's pointless to investors, they would just invest directly in Tesla. Their moves are a data point but their goals are very different than most of ours.

Shortest bear raid ever. ;)

Tesla secret project Palladium: new Model S and Model X are coming
Not much is known about the project as Tesla is keeping the information compartmentalized throughout the organization, but Electrek has been able to confirm its existence with several sources.

The project involves building new production lines for updated versions of the Model S and Model X.

It’s still unclear how far-reaching the Palladium update is going to be, again due to Tesla keeping the information compartmentalized, but it sounds like it could be significant.

According to people familiar with the matter, the new Palladium update is going to involve new battery modules and drive units that are going to serve as the basis of the upcoming “Plaid” version of Model S and Model X.

Another source told Electrek that it involves the powertrain, and one employee even referred to a new “Model S and Model X Palladium Body” — meaning that the new version of the vehicles will have a different body.

When Tesla started testing early prototypes of the Model S Plaid, it did feature some body modifications, but it hasn’t been clear whether Tesla plans to bring them to the production version.

Why would anyone adjust a rating one day before quarterly results? Why don't they just wait until the results and they'll have a better picture to build their rating from?

Maybe they are trying to help an "important" client cover their shorts before earnings? Big shots love to ask favors of people because it makes them feel more important when people "jump" when they say "jump".

Although I'd like this to be true, and I think it's more likely to be true than last time, do not forget that 'self-proclaimed journalist Fred' also kept touting an S and X refresh in early 2019 based on his sources.

And that was when the Raven came out right? To me that was a pretty significant upgrade which allow them to hit 400 miles range today.

No. He was showing mock-ups of an updated Model 3-like interior and saying that update is imminent - this never happened. BTW that does not mean those plans were not real, it could have just been, that Tesla management has changed their mind and rather diverted all resources to Model Y. In any case, such leaks do not help sales figures of existing products.

Update: actually Electrek first reported on this 2 years ago.

PS: I would also agree that a bigger Model S/X update with the new Roadrunner batteries, Plaid powertrain and - hopefully - some design refresh looks more likely than before. The S/X would once again become true flagships and leave the competition 5 years behind just when they were about to sort-of catch up.

Even if they report the profit quarter, which I expect the would, why wouldn't Thursday be "sell the news" event? Maybe this time is different, but I'm expecting a healthy pullback after earnings. My gut says back to 1200, before it rises again. There will be plenty of weak longs and 2-3x profit takes to shake. I'd love to be wrong.

Either way, hold on to your hats ...

MMD.....free money!

Unbelievable.
How do you still have cash laying around? I've been tapped out waiting for earnings for a while now. ;)

Assuming a profit is announced, I don't see a pullback until after S&P inclusion is announced and filters through. People are expecting it to react positively. FOMO will probably keep people from selling, but when the top happens I expect a February style drop.

You think the institutional investors are front running S&P to “sell the news” once we have a confirmation of GAAP profit?. That does not sound very smart.

I think we could see a sell off if we hear any uncertainty with the S&P inclusion.
