SP inclusion: there are so many different opinions here that I may be losing the plot. No, wait, no 'may' about it....

So, let's imagine the inclusion announcement is Friday AH, or perhaps Tuesday AH. Wouldn't the big funds, whoever they are, be buying huge amounts of stock in anticipation tomorrow, raising the SP big time? Or, why wouldn't they be doing so? Honest question......

If $TSLA had 10% of the problem that BMW does with 5 series they'd have been run out of business.

I think that's what I was trying to get at. Tesla has to execute flawlessly, at 10x expectations to make this EV stuff a reality. And they did it. It's amazing.

Wonder what the FUD will be when Ford, VW, Toyota etc. realize they could actually evaporate. Won't be pretty.

Active funds? If they want, but if so they've likely done so for a while now. Passive funds? No, because they are paid to follow the index, not speculate.

This has been covered to death here...

Because the objective of an index fund is to match the index, not to beat it or take risks.

NOTE TO ALL REGARDING UPCOMING ‘page 10000’

As this thread’s originator and soon-to-be-no-longer-in-convalescence UberMod:
The reasons for ‘splitting’ or stopping/re-starting this thread are as logical and deeply reasonable as is pulling a full Wacko-in-a-Swiss-Castle and performing a reverse split, ie, pulling a 1:100 and refreshing it at Page 1,000,000.

Enough said on page dynamics and numerology blathering. It is not going to happen, TMC Forum hardware necessities excepted.

Why did stories about EV being fire dangers go away?

It has little to do with protecting other EVs. It's that a quick look at the actual fire statistics show that Teslas are 8-10 times less likely to catch on fire per mile driven vs all cars on the road. It highlights just how dangerous it is to have an entire tank full of combustible liquid contained by only a thin sheet of stamped metal.

I disagree. The Fire data on % EV vs ICE was also around forever, but ignored b/c the news cycles kept hammering that narrative to kill TSLA. Those stories are diminished and it did not come up today with Gordon, to my point. In case you didn't see Rob's show today with Gordon, facts don't matter. This is a perception based economy now, met by reality with "surprises" that aren't surprises at all if we just listen. That's when we get our upside corrections on TSLA, and when least expected, IMHO. And then we all say "see, duh." FSD is the same thing, ignoring facts and safety reports, just a $ driven narrative is all.

As has been said over and over, and S&P 500 index fund can not buy a stock until it is announced that it is going to be added to the S&P 500.

I mean legally (and I know nothing) don't they have to wait until the announcement? I would imagine some these funds have strict rules, and don't just speculate about additions if they aren't allowed to.

I admire Rob for staying so calm and disarm Johnson in spite of getting shouted down all the time. I was worried GJ was getting a heart attack. It was literally making me nervous to listen to that. Clearly he was fighting for his existence while Rob knows the numbers better and throws in a number here and there that completely prove GJ's arguments wrong. Nobody listening to this discussion can say that Rob is wrong and GJ has a point. He was clearly panicking. Rob has won the debate 100 %. Good for us. I feel vindicated why my account is bursting at the seams right now (stock price correction and all).

I'm not sure if legality is technically involved, but if they deviate from their own rules that probably places them at risk from buyers seeking compensation if they underperform because of those violations.

In 1976 Looking ahead to 2030!
Near the close, I did some tax-loss harvesting in our taxable accounts selling all long-term losers (like GE!) to help offset some of the large taxable gain generated by my fortunate TSLA Roth IRA Conversion on 1/2/2020 at $86.05 post-split. Also bought some of these "cheap" post-split shares in the Roth accounts that had cash balances of less than one pre-split share. Now our Roths are fully locked-and-loaded TSLA baby.

Added-on in the $402's and $403's (except for the one souvenir share @ $420.69 earlier today). Always feels good to take more shares out of circulation from the shorts, algorithms, and day traders!

I'm betting on S&P 500 inclusion announcement tomorrow after the close.

Looks like aftermarket players are fighting over $400 right now. What is "max pain"?

Update: Thanks for reporting bits and pieces of Rob's "interview" with GJ. Now I don't have to watch it. Instead, I'll play Fortnite - it's a better use of my time! :D (and I'm close to Champions League now)
