I especially like how they describe @neroden as an "uber bull" -- of course, that wouldn't achieve the desired framing...

And they selectively disregard his posts that are positive on the company and its future. You know...this whole make cars and sell them for more than it costs to make them thing.

and also that he thinks that Tesla is waaay ahead of everyone else in self driving making the cars more appealing.

My last reply to the defenders of this new silly Twitter crap coming from the company. I never criticized musk or tesla before this in regards to twitter. And I am not some old fuddy duddy. Its a logical fallacy that because i criticize this then I must be against all that is Telsa and the new world order and want us to go back to the good ole times of Henry Ford Circa 1930.

And WTF does 10 year old girls playing with you car screen have to do with the corporate Twitter account of Tesla? I get that they are (trying) to appeal to the Gen X and Gen Y's etc...although I betchya the largest demographic that own Tesla's are over 40. So what?

You guys are all way too sensitive on this post. like i said, some levity from them here and there OK, but this is not going to make anyone of any age buy a tesla because they are cracking jokes non-stop on tesla twitter account.

An Abe Lincoln yarn:

“Billy, don’t shoot too high—aim lower, and the common people will understand you,” Lincoln once said to a brother lawyer.

“They are the ones you want to reach—at least, they are the ones you ought to reach.

“The educated and refined people will understand you, anyway. If you aim too high, your idea will go over the heads of the masses, and only hit those who need no hitting.”

For those hardware geeks (Like me), this wiki has a ton of detailed information about Tesla's "FSD" chip. It's so detailed, I'm wondering if it was updated by someone on the development team:
FSD Chip - Tesla - WikiChip
It says at the bottom, bibliography:
  • Tesla: autonomy day April 22
  • Tesla: personal communication April 25

Nice read, but it looks like the same information presented at the autonomy event, even re-using some graphics. I guess those were either provided by Tesla or screen capped from the video.

It says at the bottom, bibliography:
  • Tesla: autonomy day April 22
  • Tesla: personal communication April 25

so I guess the pics were provided by Tesla.

Well...they certainly are aiming low here. Like at my 10 year old son low.

...and in case y'all forget, I am uber Tesla bull and huge fan of Musk and SpaceX and Tesla.

I would say "be smarter" to some of you, but for those who know everything already, there is not much they need to learn, so they can't be helped. "In the experts mind there are few possibilities, in the beginner's mind there are infinite possibilities."

40 year old cars buyers have 10 year old daughters.
Gen Xers are 38-58 years old at this point.

Chris: So by the end of the year, you’re saying, that someone is going to sit in a Tesla without touching the steering wheel. Tap in “New York”, off it goes.

Elon: Yeah.

Chris: Won’t have to ever touch the wheel. By the end of 2017.

Elon: Yeah essentially November or December of this year we should be able to go from all the way from a parking lot in California to a parking lot in New York. No controls touched at any point during the entire journey.

Applause

Chris: Amazing. Part of that is possible because you’ve already got a fleet of Teslas driving all these roads. You’re accumulating a huge amount of data of national road system.

Elon: Yes. But the thing that was interesting is that I’m actually fairly confident it will be able to do that route even if you change the route dynamically. So it gets it’s fairly easy… If you say I’m going to be really good at one specific route, that’s one thing, but it should be able to go, really be very good, so once you enter a highway, to go anywhere on the highway system in a given country. It’s not sort of limited to LA or New York. We could we could change and make it. Seattle-Florida, that day, or you know, in real time. So you are going from L.A. to New York now go from L.A. to Toronto.

So... what sort of news would have to come out to get the stock above $300? Would positive deliveries or Q2 financials be enough? I'm not sure unless those were huge beats. I'm not sure I see anything obvious in the next 4-5 months. Thoughts?

Boy...hard to say. There are always macro events that control the market (e.g. china trade war) that can overcome even very positive news. I would suggest if you believe in the TSLA thesis than you look at longer time horizons and not worry about shorter term ups/downs. if you are swing trader and good at it than you are smarter than me as there are forces\people that control short term pricing that know more about what the general investor will do than the investor does.

If you are day trader...good luck...better chance with that then swing trading IMO...but still hard.

Upcoming events?
  • Deliveries for Q2...if they hit their projections that is excellent. No one seemed to believe them at analyst level
  • Progress on Gig factory 3 to the point they are fitting it out with equipment in Q2 would be great
  • Semi/truck news
  • Some big update to cars with more FSD features
  • GF4 announcement? could depress stock though
  • stop having 10 year olds run the corp twitter account...this could cause huge jump in price :p
I am sure others can come up with things I missed.

Are we still expecting some kind of an announcement from Tesla regarding model Y production this week? That could be a near term catalyst. Or just as likely it will be shrugged off by the market. It still looks to me like we are in the six month following wedge pattern.

Look at why the stock sank (fears of sustained demand, particularly for S/X, fears of weak margins to prop up said demand, etc)

Now reverse said cause.

Just as you feel I have missed your point on your first post, you have completely missed mine.

The point is that Tesla's appeal goes far beyond financial "standards". What we, in our generation, see as important are of little relevance to the next generation. Tesla is gearing their business model to the expectations of their FUTURE clientele...not mired down in satisfying the expectations of the PAST.

I don't get why they wouldn't bring this to market. I think a lot of owners would by it, no? Would be rather profitable...?

Seriously seems a no-brainer.

I don’t think they are missing tens of 1000’s of car sales as a result but probably a few thousand for sure. Those of us in socialist countries/provinces with extensive public CCS and Chademo infrastructure could really benefit from these adapters as the Supercharger buildout is a fraction of the size of the public infrastructure, especially in B.C. and Quebec. For us it literally determins wether we are able to buy the best EV (Tesla) or settle for something less. We put an order in for a model year 2020 Nissan Leaf SL E-plus last week with the understanding that we can cancel (in case the adapter becomes available). We don’t expect to see it till November so we have some time. Cmon Tesla. Gitterdun.

There were some light-hearted posts yesterday, but haven't seen any since - maybe they left Twitter logged-in and one of the interns had a go...? I thought it might be getting a bit weird when Elon responded to one of them...

In any case, us old farts* aren't the target audience any more. I just hope they don't clog the feed up with too much chat.

* Note I may be 53 in a few weeks, but I have the brain of a teenager...

It feeds into the messaging that Tesla’s are cool and fun and everything else is old and boring. And it does so on a platform that, by and large, appeals to a less serious and younger crowd. Sure, you won’t win over the overly serious BMW/Mercedes owners, but they’re largely not on Twitter anyway.

Better: the particular things it’s talking about(asking everyone’s car names, top Teslatari scores, etc) are creating a sense of a kind of cool “club” that owning a Tesla gets you access to.
