wow. that's a lot of 💲envy of all EV startups.

One thing that is highly unusual about Elon's companies is that they are exceedingly capital efficient. Rivian just raised another $2.5B today, making it $10.5B they've raised so far. Rivian has yet to ship a vehicle (other than a few Amazon delivery vans).

Compare that to Tesla who had raised, what, maybe $150M privately? Their IPO was $175M. To date, they've raised in total just over $17B in equity (I'm ignoring debt since that gets paid back eventually). Rather amazing contrast I think.
Yes but the money is cheap. Rivian has had the chance to see Teslas capital needs, if I were in charge I'd be raising every dollar I could while the money is cheap. I would be shocked if they dont get another couple next year soon after volume shipments begin.

Agree. Hugely derisks the road to cashflow positive. Bank it an focus on execution.

Nothing we do not know. But IMO they are sadly underestimating the speed of the transition. No one will be selling ICE in 20 years. Even ten is in play. Collapses are a son of bi)$&. There will be pain.
Interesting tidbits:-

Brooks from Drag Times shows a Lamborghini Dealer from Miami what Plaid is all about:

1 Plaid sale to pax + BONUS points: 600 lbs of Pizon squealing like little girls... :p

Cheers!

Most normies don't realize just how stupid and lame ICE cars are going to seem in a few years.

Things like the Plaid and Rimac Nevera are just the beginning...

2030 EV supercars will probably have 3000 horsepower with 600+ miles of range.

Wow…just an amazing re-affirmation of why wallstreet is so behind and how much I am in debt to this forum for what it has brought to my life. The community that Chris sees as his advantage is EXACTLY what we have as a collective. Dave strikes gold once again.

Ladies and gents, I love you all.

Best video I have seen in weeks. Chris is a little cheesy and talks a lot at the start. However, stick with it.

Key point is that we have an information advantage over Wall Street. We often feel like they have the advantage. However, not sitting in a room of other traders has its advantages. This is why we are sitting on huge growth stories ourselves.

Little bit more here:
What other tech stock to consider?

Even though this was one of the best videos that I have seen in a very long time, the 2 hours was a bit much so I skipped around.
For those of you with only a few minutes, watch 11:50 to 14.:10.

Smart guy! Law of averages for a person like him suggests that he's going to continue to do well with investing

The US government used to, up until I retired, sell GI’s overseas gas (fossil fuel) coupons monthly. Theses coupons were traded in exchange at the pumps instead of the local currency. We paid way less than the locals. Subsidies ~ is that the right word?

On that same principle, the US should provide EV charging at on base housing overseas and stateside.

Fosil fuel not socialism, EV socialism?

Retired ‘94 (FYI)

FYI ~ Being retired, I cannot speak for active duty overseas. Being older than dirt, on base gasoline was not charged tax. In 1972, that saved 0.10 cents per gallon (Southern CA). Now days the local tax is charged; however, if I am correct, it goes to fund projects for troops on base. I am not 100% sure on the later part since I no longer have a need to know:) I stopped swing by to buy gas at Lewis once I realized the price of gasoline was the same as local prices with taxes around 2000.

Thought ~ how fast would the jump to EVs be if the US convinced GI Joe to buy an EV based on, on base housing free charging?

FYI ~ On base housing used to be totally free, no payment for rent, or utilities. To be fair, those of us living off base/post received an allowance, not equal to, but reasonable.

Oh yeah, gas pup workers would lose their jobs ~ but most of those have gone the way of the credit card (no cash, no human).

Wait until the Roadster goes into production, the S is pretty tame looking compared to all the “Exotics” cars. It’s going to destroy track records and change minds around the world.

What's interesting is, at least for straight tracks, I don't think the non-spaceX roadster is going to be THAT impressive compared to Plaid... simply because they're already at the limits of the tires... (the guy who did a weight-striped plaid 1/4 mile run and barely saw the time improve also serves as evidence of this)

(also likely one of the reasons for not doing plaid plus).

The SpaceX PKG roadster can ignore this limitation of physics thanks to the gas thrusters, and will be bonkers fast and (if they get the use of them for turns right) mind blowingly maneuverable too... but the regular one will have the same issue a Plaid Plus would have- there's a limit to how much useful traction 4 street-legal tires can provide no matter how much power the motors have to offer.

On a track with turns either roadster'll still have major advantages from weight and such of course.

I want to address the point of using S/X lower volume production vehicles to debut new technologies.

Meh. And here’s why:

Dashless car - debuted Model 3
New venting system - debuted Model 3
New nose - debuted Model 3
Two piece rear casting - debuted Model Y
One piece rear casting - debuted Model Y
One piece front casting - will debut Model Y
New 4680 cells - will debut Model Y
Battery pack as structure - will debut Model Y
New dry anode whatever it’s called - will debut Model Y
New SS bent/folded body - CT (which will be high volume)

Point being, it doesn’t appear to me Tesla cares to be cautious and necessarily debut new tech in low volume cars.

Clearly, they put new tech into S because they were going for something very specific/had a specific goal - but they also left out a lot of their new tech.

So to me the point is weak and not a reason to keep status quo.
I agree and I think the reasoning is that typically bleeding edge technology is expensive. But with Tesla the new technology actually lowers costs.
