Tesla VP of Communications to Leave Next Month

Tesla VP of Communications Sarah O’Brien is leaving the company.

O’Brien’s departure has reportedly been planned for a couple of months. Her last day will be Sept. 7. Dave Arnold, Tesla’s Sr. Director of Global Communications, will take on her responsibilities.

Given the intrigue, struggles, and controversy that Tesla has experienced in the two years O’Brien was in the role, you can imagine how demanding her job was at the automaker. Tesla’s communications team receives inquiry from automotive, financial, technology and mainstream press on a daily basis. Not to mention, the company has a chief executive prone to breaking news via late night tweets.

O’Brien joined Tesla in 2016 from Apple.

Dave Arnold will need to improve on communications between Tesla employees and customers, especially promptness in responding to emails, texts, voicemails, and to follow up like they promised to do but never did. Been reading too many posts about the lack of followups or nonresponse.
