Evergrande is investing $23B to develop 1M electric cars annually, including a 50GWH battery factory.

What are your thoughts? Helps kick off the worldwide EV market? Helps Tesla or hurts it?

This is great for the overall adoption of EVs. China's car market is huge, Tesla can't do it alone. So it's great that such a player is investing (finally). 1 million cars per year is still nothing on the grand scale of China's 30 million cars per year.

    Great news.

But: Did I miss it? 1 million vehicles in what timeframe? 2020 or 2025 - big difference.

It's good. It's the natural progression. It's the only way EVs will grow. Many gigafactories must be built. I think this is just the beginning. We are about to see a massive growth spurt in gigafactories. A bubble may form in a few years. This is the new industrial revolution.
    Tesla is the leader.

So if Tesla goes bankrupt, the value of GF1 alone should be on the order of $23B?

The article didn’t say, but I assume there’s a decent ramp up time. Otoh, China is not known for being slow.

Hopefully a huge commitment like that will further validate the market and eventually take some of the crosshairs off of Tesla.

The 23b is to enable production of 1M cars and 50GWah annually, so GF1 has a ways to go.

Otoh, Tesla has nearly half that production capacity now and on its way to match 1M in a couple years, a reasonable time for something this big to ramp up.

So then GF1 is half the 23B, so 11.5B$. Plus it is expanding. Plus GF3. So book value increasing. Battery production will be huge; will be exploding in growth in the coming years. This will buoy Tesla's GF value.

Yep, book value is definitely increasing. Conservatively 12b for US factories and 9b for fsd division, plus more for solar, charging network, gf3 etc are multiples of debt.

Not even including growth, brand, technology lead, or installed base which comprise the bulk of it's value.
