Tesla Wall Connector (G3) Schedule Charging Issue - Stops at midnight

Hi All,

I am hoping someone can help me, i ve had my Tesla model Y a little over a month and i schedule charge at home with the Tesla wall connector (Gen 3) - single phase 32A. I have set my charging times using the tesla app on my iPhone by connecting it to the wall connector's Wi-Fi. The charging times are synchronised with my Octopus Go Faster account with off peak charging times between 2130 to 0130 (4hrs @ 7.5p per kWh). The 2130 start suits my girlfriend starting the dishwasher, dryer and washing machine before we go to bed each night (not all have the delay function).

The car charging speed is what i would expect when i see it start to charge in the app at 2130... happy days! However, it wasn't until recently that i started to notice that the charge each night fell short of my expectations. It was only adding about 80 mile of range each night, not the 120 ish i would have expected. As i started to look into the issue, i noticed from my tesla app notifications on my iphone that my charging was stopping bang on midnight (0000) each night and i was missing out on 90mins of off-peaking charging until 0130 :(

I have checked twice the scheduled times set on the wall connector, ensured the firmware is up to date etc. But no matter what i do, i cannot get it to continue changing past midnight. Please let me know if you have heard of this issue and if you have any recommendation as to how i can get my full 4 hours of off-peak charge.

Thank you
Nicholas

Can you not set this via the Tesla App so the car only draws a charge at the selected times? I know you can do it via the Wall Connector but I thought you could also schedule charge via the car?

I don’t have my Tesla yet so please don’t shout at me if I’m wrong 😂.

I’ve no experience of the TWC but failures tend to be settings in the car.
I’d check that no timers are set in the car and your charge limit is set to 100%
I‘d assume that the TWC will have control and stop when it should

From my understanding of the wall connector app. It is designed to lock down charging to only the off peak hours you set up.
If you have set the charging in the car part of the app, then you don’t need to set it up on the wall charger too.

i Only control the charging with the car app and leave the wall connector on full time.. for me this works well.

Best thing you can do is email [email protected] - they were helpful in talking through things with me whilst trying to fix an issue I was having (starting/stopping at wrong times) until it was eventually fixed via a software update to the wall charger.

Worth noting I have a 4 hour window too 0030 and 0430 that I charge in, and this is set on the wall charger and there's no specific charging settings on the car enabled.

In app for the car set departure time and off-peak charge (Inc end time). That way it will charge as late as possible and finish when off peak ends. Leaving maybe a little heat in the battery for your driving.

Precondition can be enabled if you wish.

I don't set anything for my Tesla charger. It does mean that a very big charge could be over my 6 hours of off peak.

FYI I'm now having further issues with charging times. Ever since the 22nd Oct it seems like the car will charge outside of the set charging window. And when it drops from set-charge-level of 80% it immediately tops up again by 1% even if its during the day. I've emailed Tesla charging again - they already have my details so hopefully they come back quickly.

Hi All,

I’ve had the below response today from Tesla, I will let you know if the problem is resolved.

“Good morning,

The firmware of the Wall Connector has been upgraded to 22.33.
Could you please try again schedule charging and let us know if the issue remains or not?

If the issue does persist please send a print screen of:
- Vehicle's scheduled charging page
- Wall Connector's scheduled charging page

Thank you.
