Tesla Weekend Social - Decrypting the Cryptic Message

Has anybody been to the most recent Tesla social where they discuss the following topic:
"We look forward to seeing you this month as we take a closer look at Trip Planner. "
I'm assuming this is aimed at Tesla owners who don't even know what EVtripplanner is, let alone the onboard Tesla Trip Planner?
Just a data point to consider. I went to the May 1st social at Bellevue mall. The topic of interest was "Summon". They asked how many had used it. Out of at least 50 people there -- presumably at least half of them drivers, only 5 of us raised our hands. The question wasn't about how many use it regularly or even "some" -- it was "ever".

Education is a good thing, and more needed than you might think.

I felt sorry for the presenter. He wasn't given the tools to do the job. Tesla should have figured out a way to display the in-car nav software on a big screen in the showroom. Then there could have been an interesting presentation showing how the trip planning software worked.
Good feedback to pass along to the store manager.

At the one I went to in SD, the presenter showed people how to use the Trip Planner in the Model X that was there on the floor. That way, presumably, they could fit more people in. Not sure everyone would have been able to see, though. Agree that being able to put it up on the big screen would have been much more helpful. There was much more food and hot coffee this month!

I thought the Trip Planner meeting in Corte Madera, CA was great! They have great crew there and I learned several things that I wasn't previously aware of, how to use Trip Planner to calculate "Round-trip" remaining energy, how to check tire pressures from the drivers display and it was also interesting to find out that Trip Planner uses the average of the last 30 miles when it's estimating energy use for the trip you're currently planning. Plus the general conversation before and after with other owners is always a great time!

Hi.. How do you check tire pressures from your driver display? Thanks!

I went to the Costa Mesa social this past weekend and I agree they should have had the in-car display magnified to a LCD TV screen so everyone can see things clearly. The food and drinks were appreciated and I picked up my Tesla Corp Jacket.

Set up a trip, then in the small window with the turn-by-turn directions on the main screen, tap on the battery icon. It will then show if you have enough energy for the round trip
Maybe I don't get this, but here is what I see.

I select a destination, it calculates, briefly shows the destination name and remaining battery at destination, then displays the turn-by-turn. If I hit the Trip button at the bottom left, it flips over and shows me the destination (and lots of space to show waypoints if it supported them) and the remaining battery when I arrive. I don't see any explicit "round trip" information. Is this what they showed you?

Of course, if I use the Consumption > Trip graph I can see my start/end, do the arithmetic and calculate whether I have enough for a round trip.

@Boatguy Don't hit the trip button or battery icon. Here's how you do it:

1. Enter in a destination and navigate to it.
2. On the little mini screen in the upper left side of the screen with the turn by turn instructions, click/touch the very bottom area below "trip" and "cancel" as if its a button (shows miles, time, and estimated time of arrival). It doesn't look like a button, but trust me you can press it.
3. After you press that you will get a round trip estimate that pops up. (see attached pictures).

Almost feels like an easter egg since its not an obvious button. Tesla really needs to make this more intuitive.

...Saw someone we knew who had recently ordered an MX and they were looking at the one in the side lot that had dealer plates. The sales rep we know told me someone had bought it, driven it over 2000 miles and promptly returned it in a week or so. His complaint was he didn't like having to charge it.
...

I think Plugless Power is a great answer to those who really don't like plugging in their cars. It's already available for the Model S and hopefully later this year, the Model X too. More at Meet the Plugless Level 2 wireless EV charging station.

That sounds kind of crazy to me. More likely what happened is that they didn't set their own home up to charge it.. didn't have a way to charge it at work and didn't wrap their mind around how the process of "fueling" your vehicle shifts from filling it when you are using it to filling it when you aren't.
It's a mindset change.

I ended up in the Bay Area for Mother's day ( well really there for Aesop Rock but...2 birds) and went to Palo Alto for the 'weekend social'. Seemed like a pretty mixed crowd of owners/non owners and only a couple of people had used trip planner or gone on a road trip of any sort. We brought up EV trip planner as a good way to plan trips while not sitting in your car. Pretty young sales team - they all went crazy over the lit rear applique.

Attended the social at the North Houston location this morning and got to meet a few other owners and one prospective owner with a Model 3 reservation. There was coffee, pastries and fruit. They gave a brief overview of planning a road trip, using Superchargers, etc. They even wrote down a few suggestions we gave and will be taking this feedback to the Tesla software team for potential future improvements. Seriously, what other car company does this? So awesome. Then, one of the product specialists gave a brief demo of the trip planning feature in a refreshed 70D (demo'd several times with ~4-5 people in the car at a time).

Great meeting other owners and sharing stories and tips with each other. Got to meet @Beryl and she even showed a few upgrades she has that I'm very jealous of!

Looking forward to the next event..

We received emails today for a Tesla Weekend Social. Quite a number of them planned around the country this coming weekend, April 29 and April 30, 2017, some scheduled for Saturday and others for Sunday. Planning to RSVP and attend our first now that we are owners. Thinking it will cover the new SuperCharging stations and upcoming Model 3. Wonder if they will also cover the solar roof tiles and Powerwall. Look forward to meeting some of the drivers we see on the road with us :D.
