It's probably simply cheaper and faster to deliver from china. More competetive prices and shorter wait times.
Forget wait times. The Chinese cars are cheaper. The EU has an increasingly competitive EV market, and Tesla is paying a 10% tariff. At least until it gets the not-quite-Berlin factory up and running, Tesla needs to reduce prices. It's not like Tesla can compete with its stellar customer service and build quality.
If it drops the price from 75k for the sr+ down to 50k (nz) and a similar price in aussie our Western Island, tesla again will have a to much demand problem. 75k for the barebones sr+ and something like 105k for the performance m3 ATM.
