It was a very bad idea for the dealers to pick this fight with Tesla. Once it is established by the courts that manufacturers without franchises can sell direct, the floodgates of new manufacturers will open, and the game will be over.

When FTC gave Tesla's sales model its approval, the writing was pretty clearly on the wall that the dealer associations weren't going to win if they keep escalating this fight.
