With the requisite deposit, can one get a test drive at the factory as they did after the unveiling?

Too bad.
I would think that paid-for test drive deposits would be a nice source of interest-free money while generating goodwill and excitement.

Tesla's never had any issue generating excitement. In fact, they may be too good at it (see: the disappointment over the Model 3 from features Tesla never promised but parts of the community hyped).
People are forking over $60,000 today too but a Model 3 with no opportunity to test drive one first. That's just how the Tesla hype works.
