Nope, they do it just like Google. If your car can't connect to the network voice control won't work. In fact, when I mentioned this to someone at Tesla they said it was done on Google servers.

you are confusing text to speech (to read text aloud) we are discussing and speech to text (for car commands) that they indeedfaar out to google or nuance based on the language used.
