Text Messaging using Google Hangouts/Google Voice (Android)

Hi, I use Google Voice with Hangouts being my default messaging app because the default Android app uses my phones actual phone number, not my Google Voice number (which is my primary number). Does anybody know how to tell either my phone or the Tesla to use Hangouts/Google Voice for my txt messages and not Messages (the app)?

Sorry for the long run-on sentence/confusing message!

By making Hangouts the Default SMS app. That is only possible if the app can request the required Android permission.

You are right. I just tried "ok google, txt Joe Smith" and it opened Messages, not Hangouts. So I need to find a way to set Hangouts as my default messaging app even though it isn't listed under default messaging apps.

I don't believe you can set Hangouts as default.. unless you're on Project Fi? Google removed SMS capability from Hangouts last year, I believe, except if you were on Project Fi..
