The at-fault party hit straight into the rear quarter panel and wheel. Luckily cameras caught it all. I'm frightened to see how much this cost when all is said and done!

Taking it to the Tesla owned body shop here this week, and will update as the estimates start to come in.

There are quite a few threads on accidents in model 3s, ( see the " similar threads" below that the new forum software shows). those might interest you, as some of them already have information on the process that you are talking about sharing.

I think you have a panel gap there. Too late to refuse delivery? ;)

My Model Y is in a body shop now to have similar damage repaired. The at fault driver had GEICO auto insurance. They too agreed that their insured was 100% at fault once they viewed the TeslaCam video I sent them. GEICO is paying for a luxury level rental car from Enterprise. I'm hoping to pick up my Y tomorrow. It's been at the shop since February 9. Patience is required when having a Tesla repaired.

What did the total bill to insurance end up at, if you don't mind me asking?

About $3,300 for repairs so far. That does not include redoing the ceramic coating. Rental car will be about $1,500 I think. Tesla does not yet have a parts depot in Florida, so that slows things down. There was an delay when parts shipped by Tesla got stuck in Texas during the recent winter storm there. When they arrived at the shop the aluminum passenger door was damaged, so another had to be ordered.

Pretty sure there’s no aluminum in the door. I don’t think there’s any aluminum in any of the external body panels on the 3.

Ouch. Sorry this happened and sad to see that the 3/Ys are somehow particularly suseptible to this (rear quarter, rear door) or front fender/headlight damage.

If you go with a Tesla certified shop, as you should, the final cost will be well north of $10K (at least $12K, at most $18K).

They will have to do a lot of disassembly, undo spot welds, cut aluminium, steel, spot weld in a new rear quarter, replace the rear door skin, repaint all, blend front door, potentially blend rear trunk and bumper, etc. Do all this on a rack and finish up with an alignment and multiple sensor resets.

Wheel damage, tire damage, potential suspension damage, etc.

Often these repairs result in rear window cracking too. Quarter panels arrive damaged from factory and need some TLC before fitting. If there is damage under the outter sheet metal - $$ more cost to replace whats there - if under the side skirt and compromised the battery $$$.

One good thing is all this happened on the passenger side of a Americas market car. No charge port makes the fix cheaper and easier (lots more going on underneath on the side the charge port is on).

Here are a few additional pictures. It looks like the structural piece directly behind the main body damage is bent, and two attachments points that connect the control arms to the main drive unit frame are messed up. Top mount it pushed back about an inch, front it bent. I'm hoping the impacts didn't damage the motor or "differential?"

This is going to get costly!

Ouch - best of luck with you repair. Based on what I’ve been observing, I’ve come to the conclusion that people forgot how to drive during the lockdown and now they’re out in droves driving absolutely terribly. Stay safe everyone.

At least you seem mentally prepared that getting your car repaired will take a long time and headache. I always LOL when others post on here that they expect their Tesla to be repaired and returned to them within a couple of weeks.

WOW...... My model 3 is currently in the shop.

It was backed into and hit right behind the Driveside rear passenger door above the the rear wheel....

It's been at the repair shop currently for almost 2 weeks with no work done on it yet....

The quote I have is over $6500 currently....

In a similar situation; word of advice, if you own a tesla, make sure you have rental car coverage. I was hit, so their insurance had to pay, but I've been in a rental for almost a month and the car still isn't done.

Took me 5 months to get my BUICK back. I don't think Tesla is any worse than that ...

Buddy of mine just had his Model 3 repaired after a delivery van waffled the rear quarter panel. Was fixed in about 10 days.
