The final hours!!! Going all in

Two weeks ago, we took the plunge and put a deposit down on an inventory 75D Black/Leather Seats/Subzero/AP car and today at 5 pm we take delivery of our new family member!!! The experience so far as been quite smooth and unlike any car we have purchased before.

Needless to say, the next few hours are going to be nerve wrecking and 5 pm can't come fast enough!

On a side note - when my wife and I decided that we want to do this (even though to us it seems absolutely absurd to spend so much money on a car), we both agreed that this is the right time. Thats when the reading and research on these forums started. We both love technology and our approach with this car is that its time we give something back to mother nature by reducing pollution and carbon footprint. This is our first towards going green.

Given our love for this car and the technology it represents, we made a conscious decision not to test drive it. I know it may sound dumb and naive, but we are both very passionate about this car and we want the experience to be special, and the first time we experience it, we want it in our own car! So much so that we decided not to even go into the showroom to see it in person. Every time we walk by the showroom (located in a local mall here), we would just keep walking and smile without saying a word, seeing other people touching, looking, and admiring these amazing machines. Knowing that in a matter weeks we'll have our own - a very humbling & blessed feeling to say the least.

Call us crazy - but I don't think there is anything that would deter us from taking the plunge. We love 1st generation technology gadgets. I know there are issues and limitations with the car, but the benefits and the superior technology it represents is good enough for us to go all in without ever driving it, touching it, or sitting in it.

That's awesome! I'm glad you both made the plunge together! I just took delivery on Friday in Denver and it went a lot smoother than I was expecting. Everyone was extremely excited for me, my appointment was on time, and there were only a couple tiny issues that were resolved within minutes. I couldn't be happier.

Congrats and welcome to the family! :)

Sorry for the delayed update folks!

We got delivery Friday at 5 pm promptly. The experience was very smooth and everything went well. I made sure to do my home work on the leasing documents before hand as I didn't want to spend any more time than necessary for the paper work and get right to the car!

After a few minutes of paper work, our delivery specialist got us, and walked us to our new baby outside under a red Tesla tent! (guess all indoor spots were taken by others) Trying to contain my excitement and staying composed was almost impossible. He walked us through as many of the features as he could in the next 45 minutes (we told him we didn't want to test drive so this is a first). It came preloaded with v8.0!!! and rear cup holders with USB! Couldn't be happier.

All in all - the car is an absolute work of engineering marvel and I cannot wait to drive again! The weekend was busy with driving around, showing it to friends and family, and being completely overwhelmed with paranoia when it came to parking in a parking lot with other cars. Obviously the focus and priority changed immediately on how far do we need to park to get away from idiots who wanna park right next to you even though there are plenty of spaces available (yes - always my luck).

Now for first impressions:
Pros:
  • Love the auto pilot!!!!
  • Love TACC
  • Very impressed with the quality of the interior and next gen leather seats (was nervous about it based on some feedback)
  • Acceleration! Its a 75D but I have nothing to compare to other than my ICE BMW, and it kills it!
  • Favorite: Automatic garage door open/close
  • Vehicle Hold feature is fantastic!! Can't believe something so simple has such a huge impact on day to day comfort
Cons (only 3 so far):
  • Well - need I even say it out loud: USB Media management. Enough said
  • Audio quality (stock): Honestly, disappointed in the quality of speakers and just overall system for a car at this price point. 3 band equalizer is quite limiting
  • Could do with better mobile phone integration (like controlling playlists and music from the touch screen)
I am sure we will continue to discover more features and hopefully not many issues in the coming days/weeks. So far we have seeing 2 issues: the 75D log is missing from the back of the car, alignment is not correct.

Will be posting pics today.

Thank everyone for the welcome and support!

Note: Went on an amazing short drive near our house on a winding road on 285 to experience fall colors and enjoy the new car. Hafl way though our drive, encountered a group of 9 Teslas driving the opposite side of the road!!!! Last one waved at us. Brought a big smile on everyone's faces!!

Ahhhhh, that newbie excitement roller coaster after you order. Then desperation and anxiety of the wait. Then back up the roller coaster on delivery day and then a standardizing line of a consistent grin and excitement overtime you drive it.

It's quite a range of emotions with these vehicles.

We all remember our first. :) Congrats

Congratulations! I was tempted to comment how "brave" you were to buy without test driving, etc., but then i realized that many early owners did the same thing because there were (and maybe still are) no stores near them and no way to test drive or even see the car.
I hope your ownership proves to be long and happy!
