That's odd. I don't see them on the Design Studio, even after a page refresh. Either way, these wheels are 1-2 steps away from Moon discs.
they are gone again. seems like they majorly screwed up a website update and then reverted it. http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showthread.php/24119-Model-S-exterior-design-change-on-website
Aero wheels get delivered in large numbers to EU customers that bought the Tesla 19" winter tires & wheels set. Only if you explicitly ordered the standard 19" wheels you will get them. Owner reactions are - parted.
Oh good grief. Whereas if you actually want the aero wheels in the US, you can't get them yet, and if you want them without tires, you pay almost as much as you would to get them with tires. This makes no sense.
You're mostly paying for handling. If you wanted the tires alone (and if Tesla sold tires only) they would likely also be about as much as the set as well.
I was on a factory tour yesterday and didn't see one set of aero wheels anywhere outside. Just sharing.
Aha. Thanks for the explanation. There's something wrong with this, though, because TireRack can ship both tires and wheels with *much* lower S&H costs than $3000. Can we find Tesla's supplier and get aeros shipped at a reasonable price?
The difference is that Tirerack.com is in the business of selling tires and wheels while Tesla is in the business of selling cars. A set of wheels and tires at your BMW dealer (or even your Toyota dealer) isn't going to resemble Tirerack.com pricing either. Finding the supplier is a good idea.
