    The breakthrough for batteries in grid storage will not be driven by power density, but by cost to install and operate (=cycle life).

    at a recent conference hosted by one of our national labs, the director of JCESR said ( and i am paraphrasing):

    "... 5 years ago, i would have lost my shirt in a bet about how far Tesla would achieve with the current Li-ion battery technology ..."

    Just keep in mind he is leading this hub which aims to produce a battery with 5 times higher energy density, which is 5 times cheaper, within 5 years :)

    Also the 5-5-5 reminds me of any other goal set in my native communist country - they were all 5 year goals and of course nothing was actually achieved at the end.
