The SR+ is fast!

Speed is relative, coming from a 90s Dodge Caravan the SR+ is a race car. How fast it feels is subjective to your experiences. A SR+ would feel pretty slow after driving a P3D for a few months, and vice versa.

I've tried a few older Model S' and test drove M3P (not for a long time though). We drove Model X100D for a week during our trip to British Columbia and I wouldn't say that our SR+ feels much slower compared to those vehicles. Is it slower? Yes. But not significantly, especially in regular everyday driving. You still have a great deal of torque and power when you need it.

Yesterday I gave a ride to my colleague who owned c63 amg and he was impressed :)

Finally took delivery at about 9:30 pm last night of my SR+! Today was my first day of driving it more then from the street into the driveway and wow, it's pretty fast! I can't believe this is the "slow" Tesla. Coming from a Volt I'm used to that instant power but living up to the specs, I would say the Model 3 SR+ feels twice as fast. It still gives you that smile from a stand still of "man, where is this power coming from" and then you glance over and you're at 50mph and climbing still. I'm sure it's nowhere near the crazy feel of a AWD or Performance, but if you're coming from a "normal non-sports car" or pretty much any other electric car you'll still be very happy with the "lowly" SR+ version of the Model 3!
I just checked the Tesla site and the SR+ has a 0-60 time of 5.3 seconds. To put that into perspective, I bought a 1991 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo (V6) and thought it was pretty hot *sugar* back then. Its 0-60 time ... 5.0 seconds (if you launched it perfectly).

Yep, and the Chevy Volt is like 7+ seconds to 60 (and wheel spin on the front wheel drive when flooring it which just makes it feel so ecco box) and I had an 2002 Audi A6 2.7T before that after 90k miles (when I bought it) and with the automatic (horrible) transmission probably did it in 7 to 8 seconds.

If you come from a non-performance car (a older heavy executive style car or Accord/Camry level car, or any other electric car) then you can still have a lot of fun in the SR+ and it will feel like a nice improvement in power and speed. My big point was that even though it's at the bottom of the range (at least the "on menu" stuff) it still feels very fun. I think a lot of car buyers would be used to the "cheapest" offering of a model had the smallest engine with the least power and the mid-range or higher end specs were always where any fun was. Don't get me wrong, the fun probably increases exponentially as you go up the the Tesla range and cost, but entry level is still a blast and probably won't leave you feeling left out and wishing you could have afforded the AWD or above.

That was a really welcoming feel for me. I'm not a huge fan of the fastest car or taking it to the track or anything, but after everyone on youtube and else where talks about how big of a smile you get with the AWD or Performance and how friends are always shocked by them, I kind of was feeling like my SR+ wouldn't really "feel" any more fun to drive then my Volt... just better creature comfort and looks and obviously all battery range. I was wrong, and it puts a smile on my face still :)

Still have to get used to the turn signals though... maybe I'm not pushing hard enough? I can only seem to get the quick 3 blink before it turns off... I'm sure I look like an idiot on the road right now :)

(No pictures yet since sadly my Model 3 was loaded on the truck first and thus acted as the bug catcher for the other two cars being transported... I haven't had time to clean the front end yet, and in fact might just leave it like that and have the detail shop clean it in the next day or two when I can get it in for a PPF on the front)

Yes the turn signal on the model 3 has flaws, I took mine in for maintenance and they gave me an old S, and the S's turn signal behaved like I expected (like my old Caddie did). I'm always flashing my 3's turn signal all day like i'm an old man.

Mine seem to be working ok... I just didn't realize the amount of force required to actually go past that first stop. The quick 3 flash lane change still seems a little too quick but I think it works as intended.

Hold down for regular signal, halfway for 3 signals, hit it in the same direction or opposite direction to cancel it out, same direction is better

You know if the blinker is on and you press it the same direction you did to put it on, it will cancel, right? I found this tip from the Like Tesla YouTube channel and have used it many times since.

Mine only does that sometimes. Other times, I have to go full on “click the other direction” to shut it off. It’s the one frustration point I have - why isn’t it consistent? What’s the differentiator between when it lets me click in the same direction to turn it off, and when it doesn’t?

Congrats! And I agree with you. I came from an Audi S5 which was 0-60 in 4.4sec and for some reason the Tesla seems faster at least from 0-40 I'd say. Makes me wonder how the 0-40 time compares to other cars. It's a good indication of real world needed acceleration

Agree totally. The speed of my SR+ has totally blown my friends/family away.
Right. Faster than my old Boxster. After I throw people back in their seats I tell them, "This is the slowest Tesla." Weird though, that when I went to the dealer for a first test drive, that the only car they have for me to test drive right then was a Performance model. Uh-huh.

Congrats.

I have to laugh a bit, cuz if you think that's fast you definitely don't come from a background of quick/fast cars. 5.3 seconds is no slouch, but it's not fast by any means, but it's all relative.
Yes, but the torque available to you at every speed is the same as if you were driving your sports car around- at 5,000 RPMs ALL THE TIME.

And I like the theory that it feels faster because it's quieter. When I gas it in my ICE car now I fell like I'm screaming, "HEY COPS, LOOK AT ME! I'M SPEEDING!"

I’m gonna have to go to task with you in regards to your comment. Saying the SR+ isn’t fast is kinda silly considering it probably ranks in the top 5% in terms of fastest production cars on the road. The AWD Performance probably ranks in the top 1% of fastest production cars on the road. Numbers don’t lie.

Welcome to the club :D

I am routinely blown away by my LR AWD and how it (was) the 'affordable' tesla...absolutely crushing every sports car we previously had (porsche, corvette, nissan, etc) No compare. Coming from virtually any affordable ICE to a SR+ will be a welcome upgrade :D

Turn signals are touchy. Half press for 3 blinks, FULL press to lock in. Half press opposite direction to turn off intentionally, long full press opposite direction to switch lanes after a turn (turn left with left blinker, hold hard right to indicate changing lanes after intersection while left is still blinking). There was a problem with some steering column control modules where it would short presses for long (2018 builds), but that seems to be resolved.

PPF is basically mandatory if you ever use highways...so good pick.

October 28th for the PPF. Won’t be on the highway before then (I’m fact I doubt I’ll have even 150 miles on it before then). Full font and I may ask about the cost for the full rear bumper to protect from dirt and winter spray kicking up and any loading into the trunk I might do.

Numbers don’t tell the whole story.

What makes the biggest difference is the instantaneous power delivery with no waiting on a transmission to shift and RPMs to build. A 5.3s SR+ feels equally as “quick” as a 4.5s ICE car in my experience.

Some guy in a riced out Sentra tried to race me earlier. I hadn't even turned off chill mode yet and outdid him from 30 to 40 when I heard his engine revving at me. I turned off chill at the next red light and by the time I reached 30 I was a car length ahead and his tires were still squealing. He didn't seem too happy about that.

SR+ is fast enough to get into plenty of trouble if you're not careful.

acarney ... Did you get the app working yet? I had to contact Tesla after a week of waiting. Apparently someone forgot to flip the digital switch that lets their software know that I had taken delivery. It worked immediately after they did that.
BTW ... West Richland SR+ owner here, and I love the car!
Have you decided where to take it for PPF and/or tint in our area?

Very cool! What color?

I did get the app working the day after I took delivery. I had been texting with a Sr Sales specialist during the whole order process (guy reached out to me via reddit, lol) and I asked him about it. He pinged my delivery guy & it worked within the next hour. Guess it literally is just the delivery guy updating the account to link the app and hand off from Tesla to the owner.

I’m taking mine to “A Different Shade” on Clearwater. I know they’ve done a bunch of Tesla cars so I’m hoping they’ll do a good job. I was quoted ~$1600 for full front end (bumper, full hood, headlights, side panels all the way back to the front wheels and I think mirrors). I think I’m going to ask about the rear bumper up to the bottom of the trunk opening. That way it would protect behind the rear wheels, any winter salt and spray on the lower back of the car, and any heavy/large objects I load into the trunk, AND since it’ll cover a complete panel they should be able to hide the edges really well. Now if it’s another $1500 or something I probably won’t be able to afford it right now (bought a bunch of crap for the car already), but I’ll update here when I hear about it. I’m taking mine in on the 27th for them to work on it on the 28th and maybe 29th.
