I work in a high-rise with a parking garage that is regularly patrolled by visible security. Yesterday evening as I left work, I saw several people I knew to be security milling around my car. I thought I was in for some Tesla Time, but then saw the broken glass. My front passenger side window was blown out, with nearly all of the glass gone. Most of it was in a pile outside the car. A small amount of it was in the car, though not all that much. And quite a bit of it was strewn all around - in front of the car, several stalls over, etc. (Sorry about these photos - they're from the security report.)
I don't keep much in my car, but I did have a hard drive plugged into the USB ports and sitting in the open in the center tray. I also have the Beltronics STiR Plus display and Escort Live controls mounted to the bottom of the cubby, and a few items in the trunk. It's obvious that nobody entered the car. Given the security presence in this garage, there are very few car prowls, and the glass going mostly outward suggested to me and to the security guys that this wasn't a typical smash job (nor are there any marks in the paint, as you would expect if somebody hit it with their car). It really looks like it just exploded outwards.
Luckily, I had pleasant weather for the 35-mile drive home last night. Interesting, though: I used to drive my ICE vehicles with windows down from time to time (and a Jeep with top and doors off), and it never really bothered me, but after driving the Model S for a month, boy do ICE cars smell bad! (Unfortunately, I'm stuck driving one until this gets fixed.)
I called Tesla Ownership Experience last night, and they opened a ticket but suggested I call local service this morning. Just did that, and they seem like they are going to treat it as a warranty issue. I've heard (on these forums) of windshields spontaneously cracking, but hadn't heard of side windows blowing out. Hope this is not widespread. They were of course very interested in this issue, and indicated that Tesla engineering would be alerted to look into it.
