Is it typical for Tesla to require photocopies of license & insurance at time of configure? First I've heard of it. But it is a detail I would understand being left out while describing the configure process for previous owners. Just speculating, but I saw one of the reservation holders to get the invite last week lives in Florida, but used a friend's address in California for his reservation. Since invites seen CA only right now, maybe they want proof of residence? Again, just speculation.

We had to do this for the MS. I think they don't want to release a car without valid license and insurance (may be a liability problem).

On the other hand, our ins comp wanted the VIN.

Tesla has to prepare all of the purchase paperwork. Remember, there’s no dealer. I think you’d find you provide all of the same info for any car you purchase... just usually af dealer at time of delivery.

"Our delivery specialists need enough time to accurately prepare the purchase paperwork."

Translation: We need to fill out a few lines and click a few checkboxes online then hit print.
