    This explains clearly why there is so much crud that gets on the booster.

    That is amazing. First it is in the 2nd stage plume, then it has to ride in its own plume during the reentry burn. It is a wonder it isn't all jet black.

    That re-entry burn though... wow... it's a wonder the rocket doesn't burn up!

    I also didn't realize that the first stage sits inside the second stage area for so long. I would have thought they would push it away faster.
