I'm thinking about getting my $2500 back and waiting awhile to see what happens. I'm tired of not getting any information.

I originally ordered in January 2020 while there was still a $2500 refundable deposit being taken. I ordered a RWD / Red / WhiteInt / 19"Gemini. When the price dropped and a Tow Hitch became available, I changed my order on July 12th to AWD / Red / BlackInt / 19"Gemini / Tow Hitch. I received the Order Agreement email, but have never received any Text messages. I've verified that my phone number is correct in my account information.

On Monday (August 24) I contacted Tesla about my order and found I had been placed on the the "ineligible" list until 1/2/2021. Ahhh excuse me? Why? They couldn't give me a specific answer saying there were multiple possible reasons. My best guess was because I had originally ordered the RWD version. Oh well. I'm going to give them until August 31st and at that point I'll probably be asking for a refund of my $2500 security deposit. It has been so frustrating seeing orders on the east coast placed well after my order get delivered without so much as a word from Tesla. I've been a big fan of Tesla for many years and I'm sure I'd enjoy/love the MY.....but.......

I'd cancel and place a new order.

As for notifications, I had a VIN on the MVPA in My Account long before I received a text.

There wasnt any notification, I was just regularly looking at my account and happen to notice the extra documents posted.

The text was basically a link to schedule delivery which in my case isn't until 9/5.

They usually use that list to delay deliveries on customer request. So you should be able to take yourself of that if you ask. Also, have you completed the steps in your profile?

Did you also order FSD? I ordered same config as you with FSD and no tow, live in NC and also converted from RWD to AWD on July 8th. Like you i hear crickets unless I contact Raleigh, in fact, because of your 'ineligible' comment I had them verify that my account is eligible, which they did. Hoping to get a VIN in the next week or 2.

Yes, I asked to be placed on the "eligible" list. That's one reason I'm giving them until Monday for some type of response.

The waiting isn't the problem. I've been waiting since January. It's the lack of information on Tesla's part and seeing all the deliveries being made on "new" orders while I am hearing a nothing. If I hear nothing, I'll most likely cancel my order, wait until after BATTERY DAY, and then re-order with a $100 non refundable deposit.

I did not order FSD, just the standard AP.

Ive commented in many threads and started my own thread 2 days ago with a very similar situation to yours. Yesterday I finally got a text regarding delivery in 2-4 weeks. Literally the first proactive communication from Tesla since my $2500 deposit. I may not have a solution for you, but I hope the same thing happens.

This has happened to many others who switched from RWD to AWD. Seems to be a system error, because I can assure you Tesla wants to fulfill all eligible orders. I'd suggest cancelling your RWD (now AWD) order, get the $2500 back, and order a new AWD. You will likely get it faster. Or do it like me and order AWD without canceling your earlier order and take delivery of whichever moves first :)

While I didn't switch from RWD -> AWD, I can appreciate the lack of info. I find Tesla chat to be helpful, just ask to speak with a Delivery Specialist. They are the ones who told me my Delivery Date and my VIN, None of which is actually on my account yet.

I too almost threw in the towel, until I spoke with them on chat. They don't communicate with you until the last minute from everything I have been reading. Sucks, but it is what it is.

I'm sure if you stick with it, keep badgering them, the reward will be worth it!

It's hard to believe how a company can be 5 years ahead of everyone else in EV tech and be developing AI for full self driving vehicles yet be so behind in customer service and communications. How hard would it be to send customized/automatized progress reports by e-mail?
e.g 1) Your order status is up to date and there is nothing you need to do. - If YES provide 2)
2) You are currently in queue to assigned a VIN. Estimated time to VIN # to #weeks/days - if Yes provide VIN and 3)
3) VIN # 5YJY is in que for Manufacturing. Estimated time to Manufacturing is #weeks/days - if manufactured then Date and 4)
4) VIN # 5YJY was manufactured on Date. Estimated time to first leg of Transport is #weeks/days nearest to region. if arrived at region and 5)
5) VIN # 5YJY has arrived at regional distribution area and will be loaded on to a truck for shipment to SC Estimated time #weeks/days. if arrived at SC then 6)
6) VIN # 5YJY has arrived at SC and will be prepared for delivery. Please choose a delivery date from the link here.

THat's a great idea. I was a software developer (at one point with my own company) for almost 40 years. I can't think of any good reason why they couldn't do that.

But I did get a laugh at your post. I noticed you are Montreal and when I saw 6) VIN # 5YJY has arrived at SC I wondered why he wants this delivered to South Carolina? Took a second or so, but I audibly chuckled when I realized my error.

So......which one came in first?

Okay, let's see what happens. I cancelled my order and Tesla will be refunding my $2500 payment. I then placed a new order (with a 3-5 week estimated delivery). Only thing different this time is that I added FSD!

My guess is that they'll try and get it too me before the end of September (end of the quarter push).

I've also completed all steps except insurance information, waiting on a VIN#.

My RWD order I placed in March 2019 was also marked ineligible. I reached out to Mark Gomez who has helped countless others. For my order it was the wheels I ordered way back in March 2019. He fixed it and The order was marked eligible. I’d say reach out to Mark however Tesla just let hi. Go. The only SA to ever act on my requests.

Where do you see the eligible/ineligible designation? I can't find it in my Tesla account.

Exactly, I contacted Tesla via the Chat service and was passed to a "Delivery Specialist" and they saw on my account that I had been marked ineligible. They said that a manager corrected it, but I didn't have any confidence in that so I cancelled my order and re-ordered anew. I know it resets my order date, at this point I think I'll get it sooner!

Supposedly many/most/some/all(?) $2,500 deposits of the RWD Model Y are being marked ineligible. I'm sure that it is something that happens, as others have reported. My belief is that changing your configuration from RWD to AWD doesn't do anything to "release" the ineligibility. My theory being that the whole point of ineligibility was to put those RWD orders on hold after Tesla decided to go with the whole AWD-only release in the spring. Something to allow whatever program assigns VINs to skip over these orders.

Why my order was released from ineligibility, I don't know - I simultaneously messaged Mark Gomez, Tesla Support and 2 delivery advisor contacts (not my assigned DA, as I didn't have one). A few days later I received a VIN, but never any reply to messages that it was being looked into - I simply got a call from one of those DAs saying they would take over my account, simultaneously with emailing me a VIN.

As a sidenote, my DA suggested that any $2,500 deposits were being worked on by "inside sales," which wasn't directly defined by my DA, but which I took to mean someone in Fremont versus the team in the showrooms - and that this could further complicate things, as outside of RWD orders, most $2,500 orders have been delivered.

TLDR: I believe that any $2,500 RWD -> AWD res holders should be as proactive as possible in seeing what's going on with their order.
