This Insurance problem could effect many Tesla owners.

I just got my Vin for 2017 model X 90D and the number 6 digit is the Letter "D". Does anyone know how to decode that?

My 75D also has an "E" there, but my State Farm agent (well, some assistant, anyway) had no issues with my saying it was a 75 ...except they didn't have an option to select 75, so she chose 70 as that was the closest. I asked her to add in the notes that I clearly said it's a 75 -- I don't want them denying a claim because I "misrepresented" what I had. She confirmed she did so. I suggested she call underwriting to bring them up-to-date.

She noted that "P" models had substantially higher rates. I gave her a quick rundown on what it all meant, since she clearly had no idea ("Gee... there are a LOT of models!") It's the first Tesla she entered a policy for.

Ameriprise said my VIN came up as a 75 or 90D. I let her know that was incorrect and she manually input my vehicle as a 60D based off of the msrp.
