This is what electric car advocates don't seem to talk about much...
EVs being considerably heavier than similar-sized ICE cars, cause more wear & tear to roads and bridges.
Efficiency gains in using an electric motor (let’s say 80% out of an energy plant’s 40% thermal efficiency is 32%) are largely offset
by putting batteries with their inherently low-energy density in cars which have already grown obese (SUV trend).
A small ICE car with 25% thermal efficiency is therefore greener than a big electric SUV.
We shouldn’t forget that the bulk of the world’s electricity is still being generated by burning oil and gas.
