This is what electric car advocates don't seem to talk about much...

EVs being considerably heavier than similar-sized ICE cars, cause more wear & tear to roads and bridges.
Efficiency gains in using an electric motor (let’s say 80% out of an energy plant’s 40% thermal efficiency is 32%) are largely offset
by putting batteries with their inherently low-energy density in cars which have already grown obese (SUV trend).
A small ICE car with 25% thermal efficiency is therefore greener than a big electric SUV.

We shouldn’t forget that the bulk of the world’s electricity is still being generated by burning oil and gas.

the reply was to someone who boasted that THEIR car is clean because it runs on power generated at his home. I am pointing out that he is an outlier and that the reality is that the pollution is occurring somewhere when using an EV, thinking an EV is pollution free because a handful of people are generating power is ignoring the vast majorities who buy their power from sources that use fossil fuels to create the power. EVs are not pollution free.
Where did @roblab make the claim that ALL EVs are pollution free regardless of charging location? It’s pretty obvious what he was implying.

If you are worried about the weight of vehicles causing road damage, look to semis.

The point of an EV is to REDUCE the environmental impact. It won’t go away completely. As the grid gets cleaner, so do all EVs powered by the grid. Coal usage being reduced to less than 20% in US. EVs are much cleaner when powered by nat gas. And even better if powered by renewable energy.

why does this even keep coming up?
