Maybe because they refuse to understand that Tesla doesn't build in VIN order. It does make some things very difficult like TSBs and recalls, as they can't just provide a VIN cutoff or range, they have to actually identify each individual car. (Which they never share with the public.)

It's not that difficult, the NHTSA portal works on an individual VIN basis and Tesla would contact each owner directly. Service centers would also have a lookup on a per car basis (only way to check if the TSB had been performed)

The last 6 of the VIN don't matter. The newer builds have different starting sequence.

They do? What is different about the first 11 digits (ignoring the 9th check digit)?

Tesla doesn't notify customers for TSBs, and since it is a VIN cut-off/range it isn't included in the TSB itself. Meaning you have to actually ask Tesla if a TSB applies to your car. That makes it more difficult for a car owner to know what impacts their car.

because around 162000 is when they announced the refresh and they from then on all the cars are build with new upgrade parts. did you take delivery CmdrThor?

No I didn’t want the old car. How can you be sure all cars after a certain date had the new parts. I was told the exact opposite that older orders would be the older car. I could still go buy that 163xxx VIN today and it is clear on the config that it is the old version but it wasn’t built until later. As my first order was just a few days before the announcement.

So.... Had anyone actually received a model X refresh?

See
I must note as well, we ordered on April 9th, and did experience a delay. We had ordered with the Sonic Carbon 20" wheels. However we received a call from our delivery specialist once our vehicle had shipped stating that the delay was due to the change to the "Raven" hardware, and that we would not be receiving the vehicle with the Sonic Carbon wheels, but rather the new 20" two-tone Slip Stream wheels. To our delivery specialist and Tesla's credit, they offered to send their mobile service team to us to exchange the wheels for the ones that we originally ordered with once they got them in.

Here is a picture with the new two-tone Slip Stream 20" wheels.

I ordered on 5/4 a performance model x and still waiting to hear an update. Sales specialist just told me that I have not been assigned a VIN and the Tesla line told me they were building international models and should switch soon. No idea if that is true. I am refreshing this forum hourly to see if anyone has any information at all. Keeping the google docs spreadsheet updated too.

Kudos to everyone who’s still waiting for a VIN! After 3 weeks, I gave up! CS kept telling me that they’re just waiting for a car to match my configuration. I’ve been told that they’re building not in order of placement date but by batches (of what? they can’t tell me). Ridiculous IMO so I went ahead and ordered an inventory 100D that was too good to pass up!

May the patience be with you all!;)

Just guessing based on past Tesla experiences, but I would imagine that the quantity of Raven vehicles produced that last week of April was very small, a bit more the first week of May, and that they're moving into the significant ramp-up phase now. Just an educated guess, but I would expect the rest of you who ordered in April to receive VINs likely this week, with people like me who ordered later on starting to receive VINs next week. They are definitely going to do all they can to see that we all receive our vehicles by 6/30 given the terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad Q1 S/X results they had. They need to show improvement in Q2 if they possibly can.

Could be totally off-base, but them's my thoughts.

New to this forum, made an account just to reply to this. I ordered a MX LR on 4/24/19 in southern California. Still no VIN or any communication literally since order confirmation on day of ordering. Getting antsy since when I look online it still says estimated delivery on MX is "May." When I call my local service center and go through the phone tree to "ordered but no delivery date," no one picks up the phone. Let it ring for 5 minutes before giving up.

We're all in the same boat. I have talked to delivery people at Tesla, they don't know either. I'm still crossing my fingers for May though.

This is insane! We’ve just ordered ours! I’ll call DS if the free SC can be added to our inventory order.
