Tinting a Model 3 in NYS - Legal Limits + Factory Tint

I'm looking to get a ceramic tint for my windows and front windshield. (XPEL Prime XR Plus 70)

I understand that NYS law states all windows must have a VLT of 70%.

I also understand some cars have a factory tint to them to some degree.

If I go with the XPEL 70 on my windows, would I still be in the legal limit? I just want some heat reduction for the kiddos.

Has anyone else in NYS done tints to their Model 3?

Thanks for reading.

70% is basically clear and lighter than OE privacy glass you'll see on SUVs. Honestly even at 50% it's so light you shouldn't have any issue with legal limits and local law enforcement.

My Teslas have Xpel Prime XR and it's a great film.

Skip tinting in NYS. Unless you go with a clear film that still gives you the benefit of Infra and UV blocking but doesnt attract attention from police or prevent you from passing inspection.

Only exception from this rule - NYPD cop private cars with limo tint all around including windshields. Double standard much? Thanks Albany.

Another gem, the current and upcoming Mercedes S Klasse has OE glass which doesnt meet NYS regulations... lol.
