Tiny Windshield Chip - Ceramic Coat

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
My windshield which has a ceramic coating, has a very tiny rock chip.

Rather not get the windshield replaced as it's coated in ceramic already.

Any advice? Leave alone? Repair? Is it okay to repair with the ceramic coating on it?

Sorry to see. The issue with these so-called 'pits' 'nicks' is there is no good way to fix them. Nick and pit fillers only marginally mask them and there is an art in applying. The count will only increase as the miles rack up.

You are bound to pickup smaller and bigger ones which fairly quickly get super annoying in low direct sun.

Ceramic coating will also sadly not prevent these (although it can help on impact strikes to only cause nicks/pits and not chips or cracks).

You can safely 'repair' with coating on.
If you have someone do it, dont let them drill it and put too much filler. cure as long as you can, ideally overnight. Else the resin will come out with time. It can also yellow with time.

Replace the windshield. Follow immediately with three applications of ceramic unobtanium window coating.

In all seriousness, this tiny chip will cause you no problems. Leave it alone.

In four decades of car ownership, from domestic, Japanese and European manufacturers. A dozen or more window chips like this one...not one has ever led to a crack or required repair or windshield replacement.
