Tire Rack (https://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sele...Model+Y+Long+Range&autoYear=2020&autoModClar=) has started including Model Y on they website. I wanted to see what the difference in the Model 3 18" and Model Y 19" in respect to sidewall. The Model 3 is a 235/45R18 whereas the Model Y is a 255/45R19. This makes the TM3 Sidewall 4.2" and the TMY Sidewall 4.5". Here's a complete comparison....

TM3 18" vs TMY 19"
Diameter 26.3" vs 28.0"
Width 9.3" vs 10.0"
Sidewall 4.2" vs 4.5"
Circum. 82.7" vs 88.0"
Revs/Mile 766 vs 720

Thanks for looking up those numbers. Did you get that information from the tire rack site or somewhere else ?

I had thoughts of using my 18 inch wheels and tires from the 3 on the Y, but looking at those numbers that will not work very well.

Fantastic!

Here are the details for the TMY 20":
Diameter
28"
Width
10"
Sidewall
4"
Circum.
88"
Revs/Mile
720
In terms of sidewall, the Y 20" is in between the 3 18" and 19".
Fantastic! Will convince the wife to get the 20" when the time comes, as I like those much better.

Since the Tesla’s have soo much acceleration
Has anyone tried a larger circumference tire to get more range but sacrificing acceleration?
I know some downsides could be adverse handling (squishy feel on cornering, better over potholes), also likely higher ride height and speedo would be off slightly.
But you would have less revolutions per mile.
Any thoughts?
TM3 18" vs TMY 19"
Diameter 26.3" vs 28.0" -30?
Width 9.3" vs 10.0"
Sidewall 4.2" vs 4.5" - 4.8?
Circum. 82.7" vs 88.0"- upped to 94?
Revs/Mile 766 vs 720 -can this be dropped to 680?

I'm not an expert, but I think the range will hardly change (unlike when you do this on ICE). Power input/output will be unchanged.

Only potential difference is that you slow down maximum acceleration, but you could do that by not putting your foot down as much :)
