Here's one of the OP's comments/reply: "It’s the upper limit of acceptable. People do put 265s on 8.5 inch wheels, but its not ideal and starts to get pretty risky imo. Honestly I think 255s are great on these particular wheels - theres a lot less sidewall sticking out past the lip than I would have expected based on the 255s (also AS 3+) I ran on my STi with the 18x8.5 inch oem BBS"

I found the answer to my own question. The motor trend article about track mode says “10mm wider” than stock rather than saying 245 when talking about Tesla Engineering sportcup 2 setup. Made all my google searches not hit. I definitely don’t want the cup 2s for street use. Now I can happily sleep at night and buy the 245s.

Great find. I agree regarding the Cup 2's not for street use. Since I am going with the 4S I'm wondering if I'll have just a little more clearance then the AS since it has less tread depth.

This is a non answer. Sorry. It might depend. Google “Pilot 4S specs” or “MXM/(whatever tire) specs” to get the tire spec sheet. There you’ll sometimes find multiple variants for the same tire. There’s different tread depth 4Ss in the 245/35/20. I’m gonna go for the lowest tread depth and lightest tire. Hopefully it works out.

Looks like you found the MotorTrend article about using 245's.

I ended up replacing the rears with 245 as planned, leaving the fronts at 235 initially. Computer was happy and the car was not noticeably different. Same tail happy at the limit behavior. Just had to replace the fronts and now have a square 245 setup. Everything is great with no noticeable changes, just slightly more aggressive look and slightly more grip, at least in theory.

All the changes are so minor, I can't tell from the drivers seat, including range. Too many variables to really notice 2-3% changes.

I feel better having bigger tires :)

I've seen people here with both 255/40R19 and 255/35R19 and they appear to have no issues. Would it change anything if coilovers or lowering springs with minimal <1 inch height reduction were installed?

This is a width/offset dependent question, but if you keep both of those close to what others are running, you should be fine as far as clearing the fenders and other wheel well parts. Where you could run into issues is if you get new wheels and get the offset wrong, and now that taller tire is too close to the front suspension upright.

I am ready to replace my 235/35R20 tires on the P3D+ OEM Stock 20" Rims. I love the Pilot Sport 4S, so tire brand/model is settled.... Now just debating between these size:

245/35R20 -- Seems to be a no brainer but I prefer more tread if I could get away with it.
255/35R20 -- Others have used this one with no issues.
255/30R20 -- This is .4" smaller than stock and is wider, 8.5" min rim, this might be the right one...
265/30R20 -- This is .2" smaller than stock and a lot wider, 9" min rim though, but I think that's okay...

Help me pick!
 
This thread is about the stock 20" Performance rims.

I was considering the staggered setup to combat the “drift effect” with 275/30-20 on the rear.
I am glad to hear from people with first hand knowledge of track response with different setups.

T Sportline said 275/30-20 would work on the rear with 20”x10” - I have not seen anyone with anything larger than 245/35-20 on the front.

i have 255's up front. no rubbing on a 20x9. next round i'll get 245's to see if it helps with range... 20x10 up front will stick out.

Can anyone confirm if 265/30R20 will fit? On paper it appears it would. I'm .5" away from the knuckle with the 235/35R20. (This is on stock P3D+ 20" RIMS.)

I have 265/30/20 Falken Azenis FK510 tires and Signature SV302S wheels in 20x9.5 et35 up front and they clear the knuckles by 5-6mm. Since I’ve installed MPP rotors, the thicker rotor has pushed out the wheels another 4mm and now I have a few mm of poke past the fenders. 265 on stock 20” P3D wheel will most likely rub without a spacer or using thicker rotors. Too bad I’ve sold my stock wheels already or else I could have asked my tire shop to test fit 265 on the stock wheel for fun.

I’m also running a set of Signature SV801 for winter setup in 19x9.5 with et35 front with 265/35/19 MP Alpin PA4 without any clearance or rubbing issues.

Some before and after brake rotor pics of the flush vs poke of the wheels/tires.
